| So what?
Metallica themselves played a show with 19 songs in 2004. so they can play a show with 21 songs^^
they play the short shows only because of lars, because lars cant play any longer... when lars is a bit practising, like mountainbiking or jogging or something, and when he stops smoking, he will be okay in about 3 or 4 months.
God, it doesnt even matter get over it, im just saying that it should realisticly a song or two shorter! Anywho back on subject.

| Posted by Saint_Anger on 10/23/04 @ 05:08 AM Post subject: Re: Reviews of (somewhat) forgotten songs | |
| Alright, but the part II will only be about the Load / Re-Load songs, cuz it's a lot...
THE HOUSE JACK BUILT (hetfield / ulrich / hammett) 1996 a:Load
What can I say, it's a fucking kick-ass song with really loose guitars at the beginning. This might not be a good live song, I think cuz there is too much happening in this song, all weird fills on guitar and vocals, it makes the song kinda freaky, which is cool. I love that big wah-wah thing Kirk does throughout a big part of the song. The lyrical topics is kinda about James' soul, or something, by anyway the lyrics are sick, in a good way... Rate: 8,5
CURE (hetfield / ulrich) 1996 a:Load
Cure is a song many people forget even Metallica, it did show up during a few jams in live-shows. I like the spoken lyrics mixed with the sung lyrics. The guitar riff is not that memorable...It's just a song to fill up the album, I think. Lyrical topic: Suicide, that's new...Kirk's solo is nice, but I think it's too short...I do believe... Rate: 6,5
THORN WITHIN (hetfield / ulrich / hammett) 1996 a:Load
Probably the best forgotten song of this album, it starts off kinda loose, then it kicks in to a kick-ass riff. I think the lyrics are about a person (James) who is seeking for forgiveness for his sins. Jason also does a great bass-job in this song, it was also his favourite song of the album. Maybe this would nicely when it's gonna be played live...But only time will tell, I think... Rate: 9,5
RONNIE (hetfield / ulrich) 1996 a:Load
Now, okay, there is something strange about this song; nobody likes it, but still they like it somehow...I think it's because it doesn't have a true Metallica sound, but it is interresting to hear it. The riffs are really great, so is Lars' drumwork especially during the spoken part. The lyrical topic is really Americana, a dude who totally lost his mind and suddenly shoots some people in his hometown...It matches good with the guitar-sounds, I think. This song did also only came up during those famous live-jams, and from my persepective it's a good thing, cuz this one is also not a real good live song... Rate: 9 (for it's magic)
BETTER THAN YOU (hetfield / ulrich) 1997 a:Re-Load
This song has a real heavy opening, Lars pounding out his drums and a kick-ass guitar riff. The weak point are the lyrics I think, but that's in a lot of songs from this album. Kirk's solo isn't also one of his best, but nice. The intro of the song was played during jams again, nice to hear the whole song live, I think. Rate: 8
SLITHER (hetfield / ulrich / hammett) 1997 a:Re-Load
This song is kinda the same as Cure, you easily look over it, this song is also known as Metallica's worst song. And it might be true, but let's have a closer look. The intro-riff and main-riff are both great. The drums and bass are doing great. I think it's the lyrics again, they are so vague, that nobody can really identify with, I think. I can't think of any explanation, but Kirk is doing a great job on the solo's. So, I'd say this is a really 50-50 song... Rate: 6
CARPE DIEM BABY (hetfield / ulrich / hammett) 1997 a;Re-Load
Carpe Diem Baby, starts off real heavy, the riffs during the verses are great just as the choruses, they are so heavy that if you turn up the bass on your stereo, you'll be automatically be jumping through your living room...Nice! But, this is the point where I break the song down; It is a bit too long, they could easily end the song after the second chorus I think, repeating some verses sometimes isn't all that, man...I also like the bridge before Kirk's kick-ass solo halfway the song. I do think that would be another live-show killer though... Rate: 7,5
BAD SEED (hetfield / ulrich / hammett) 1997 a:Re-Load
The list never seem to end, 13 songs and only 5 of them were perfomed live in it's total. Shame on you, Metallica, for not playing Bad Seed in it's total. This song has a great vibe in it, cool drumworks and a fucking heavy riff. Also funny is that guy who's announcing the one who suffers the truth. I love the double bass Lars is using in some parts of the song, Kirk is also doing his best on his solo, but once again, it's too short... I'll rate this: 9, cuz it's one of my favourites...
WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE (hetfield / ulrich / newsted) 1997 a:Re-Load
Another Jason-song, so no need to play it live...What the fuck? No wonder Jason left...Any song that has Jason on it turns out to be a masterpiece, so why not let him write more song...? Everyone is doing great in this song bass, guitars, drums...I also think that the vocals are one of James' best...This song just never gets dull. Hamett's solo kicks seruious ass. I also know there is a book with the same title, I think the lyrics were kinda based around that, but I could be wrong. Don't you think that bridge where James is screaming things, mixed with those vocals about the toy horses, kicks serious ass?...We shall never surrender! (jason did play this during his bass-solo's) Rate: 9,5
PRINCE CHARMING (hetfield / ulrich) 1997 a:Re-Load
One of the fastest songs of the album, it sometimes reminds me of the Justice-album. It has the riffs and length to be on that album I think. I don't know why Metallica never wanted to play this song on stage, I think it would turn out great. Another cool Kirk-wah-wah solo, which makes the song even more worthy, plus, offcourse, a heavy middle part right after the solo...Magic! Rate: 9
ATTITUDE (hetfield / ulrich) 1997 a:Re-Load
This is just another heavy ass-kicker, everything in this song makes me wanna bang my head, I don't know what it is. Lars is doing a great job once again. But it isn't of any worth for Metallica, since they don't even know the title of the song anymore... Rate: 7,5
FIXXXER (hetfield / ulrich / hammett) 1997 a:Re-Load
This is simply the best song of the album, from my perspective. I like the intro with those freaky guitar-things, and then the bass sets in, with a cool riff from James...Lovely. Maybe the reason why they never play this live, is beacuse there are too much guitars in it, plus the main-riff isn't that easy to play, I think. The lyrics are about James' relationship with his father, which just turned out to be great and then his father sadly died...That is heavy...Another cool thing is the middle-section of the song, where everyone freaks out on his instrument, Lars, once again, proves he is a very good drummer...This is a very cool song in the style of the Justice-album, again... Rate: 10 |
