I love the Black Album and I really cannot understand why some people would call this "lame." With songs like Sandman, Sad But True, The Unforgiven, Don't Tread on Me(I agree that this is very underrated), Nothing Else Matters, Of Wolf and Man, and The God That Failed this is definitely not "lame". The other songs are all very good too, theres not a bad song on the album. Im not gonna say this is their best since I haven't listened to all of their albums, but this is an awesome album.

I felt like starting a prediction for rare songs being played live. As you all know during this tour Metallica has whipped out Dyers Eve, Disposable Heroes, The Call of Ktulu, The God That Failed, The Unforgiven, Trapped Under Ice etc... but there are still songs left to play.

List only the rare songs they haven't played yet and you are confident they will play before the tour ends.

I think :

-My World
-The Struggle Within
-...And Justice For All

-Escape (don't think they'll play it but I wish!!)

Haha...mama said / so what would be a painful transistion.  :-/

Am I Evil - Nothing Else Matters

Unforgiven - So What (Weird...yeah...:|...)

Nothing Else Matters - Master of Puppets is actually not bad...I saw that transistion live in Ottawa. ;) Kick started everyones senses out of that slow-song lull.

Um...how about Mercyful Fate and the God That Failed? Not to shabby really...those would be good together.

Unforgiven II - Last Caress :o While I would die happy to hear any of these songs together live there's something about them one after the other that just doesn't work. :-X

Until It Sleeps - Seek and Destroy (Does anyone really feel like seeking or destroying after Until It Sleeps? :()

Bleeding Me - Metal Militia (I love both songs...but again...NOT TOGETHER!  ::))

Nothing Else Matters - So What  has to be the worst though... :o

Want some MP3s from the Ottawa show?  :D

Go to I've uploaded the first 7. Unfortunately 35mb.com will only let me upload 35mb and only have ONE account so I couldn't upload it all.  :'(

But the good news is that for each person who downloads off of me I get 1mb more space to upload...so I'll upload more if people want them.  :P

(Ottawa got The Prince, Unforgiven, Fight Fire With Fire, a chunk of Orion, the intro to The Frayed Ends of Sanity, The Memory Remains and lots more good ones!)

Or email me, I can send you specific tracks over MSN...leechers welcome, but I am looking for The God That Failed, Trapped Under Ice, Dyers Eve, Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me and Damage Inc live ANYWHERE on THE MADLY IN ANGER WITH THE WORLD TOUR. So if you can help me out please let me know.  :-*

Posted by MiniME06 on 10/01/04 @ 10:20 PM    Post subject: Metallica/The Black Album Lazy Assed Review

One of Metallica's most famous albums, although not my favorite, this is still a great album. Lets begin.

1. Enter Sandman - an exremely well known Metallica song, whoever has heard of Metallica has probably heard this song at least once. this is a great song and like the rest of the album, is recorded in the highest quality possible. i happen to be sick of the song from listening to it so much but that doesn't mean i don't appreciate it. this great track gets an A.

2. Sad But True - arguably the heaviest song on the album and one of the best. good drums and well good everything, not much to say about this song besides that its GREAT. can't give it any lower than a B+.

3. Holier Than Thou - another great song, i like it just about as much as Sad But True so i guess ill give it a B+.

4. The Unforgiven - a decent song, i happen to like The Unforgiven II on Reload a little better than this one, but it is still a great song. it's probably the second least heavy song on the album besides NEM, another great song, but we will get to that track a little later. This "slightly less better than The Unforgiven II" track gets a B-.

5. Wherever I May Roam - another great addition to the album, slow start but it gets pretty heavy at times and is quite worthy of it's Metallica-ness. I happen to like this song alot, but i'll say that about nearly every song. i think i heard somewhere like on some show on MTV or VHI about The Black Album that this song has alot of meaning to Metallica (being on tour all the time.) This Metallica song gets a B+.

6. Don't Tread On Me - "TO PREPARE FOR WAR!" another heavy song, like most of the album and just as good as any track on the CD. i kinda think its kinda repetitive for a song thats four minutes long but that doesn't make it bad. This rare "short" song gets a B.

7. Through the Never - "TWISTING,TURNING THROUGH THE NEVA!" about the same length as Tread and just as good. good vocals, overall a very good song, not much else to say about it. another... RARE ...Metallica song that isn't 6+ minutes long.
This one gets a B like pretty much everything else.

8. Nothing Else Matters - definitely the most well known Metallica ballads out there. this song created alot of controversy with the hardcore Metallica fans of the 80's because it wasn't heavy enough. Good vocals, good song, nothing else matters. i'll give this lil ballad a B+ for surviving the angry and rabid hardcore Metallica fans.

9. Of Wolf and Man - although not my favorite song on the album, it's not a bad song. i can't think of much to say about it so im just gonna slap a B- on this track and call it a day.

10. The God That Failed - i feel pretty much the same way about this song as i do about Wolfman. it's a decent song with good vocals so i'm just gonna slap the same grade of a B- on it and go on to...

11. My Friend of Misery - another decent song, tho not my favorite. not as heavy as most of the songs on the album and i dont like the vocals as much. it's a good song and im still going to give it a B-.

12. The Struggle Within - a good finisher for the album. nice marching drum intro and decent vocals. not much wrong with this song, worth a listen while you struggle inside your head. BIG FAT F- B-

now for the final grade. this is an overall good album and deserves an overall good grade for it. i perfer the first four albums, but this is a good addition to my collection. it's definitely worth buying it.

F- ... B

View entire thread: Metallica songs with a WAH solo
Posted by stormet on 11/29/04 @ 12:51 AM    Post subject: Re: Metallica songs with a WAH solo

You'd be surprised, there's more than a handful of songs WITHOUT wah solos.
Here is some stuff...this 'wah guide' is STRICTLY for solos on the STUDIO albums (not their live renditions), some songs you may think that have wah effects actually have other effects such as delay, flanger, etc.  I've only done their first 5 albums (I didn't include Load and Reload because I'm not too familiar with a lot of those songs aside from the obvious like Fuel, Outlaw, Memory, etc).  This may not be 100% correct but it's pretty close.

Songs with a wah solo:
Hit the Lights
Motorbreath
Anesthesia - pulling teeth (for bass, the whole song is practically a solo)
Phantom Lord
No Remorse
Fight Fire with fire
Trapped Under Ice
Battery
The Thing that should not be
Damage Inc.
...And Justice for All
Eye of the Beholder
Dyers Eve
Enter Sandman
Holier than Thou
Wherever I may Roam
Don't Tread on Me
My Friend of Misery
The Struggle Within

Songs WITHOUT a wah solo:
The Four Horsemen
Jump in the Fire
Whiplash
Seek and Destroy
Metal Militia
Ride the Lightning
Fade to Black
Escape (has delay in some parts, but no wah)
Creeping Death
The Call of Ktulu (has delay in some parts, but no wah)
Master of Puppets
Welcome Home - Sanitarium
Disposable Heroes (has wah in other parts of the song but not in the solo)
Leper Messiah
Orion
Blackened
One
The Shortest Straw
Harvester of Sorrow
The Frayed Ends of Sanity
To Live is to Die
Sad but True
The Unforgiven
Through the Never
Nothing Else Matters
Of Wolf and Man
The God that failed

IF you count the improv. at the end of "For Whom the Bell tolls" then yes, it has wah in it.

REMEMBER, the non-wah solos probably have a different effect to them...so if you think there's wah in it, there actually isn't.

I agree with this list except I am pretty sure that there is a wah used in Leper Messiah after the sweeping. I dont listen to load/reload enough to tell you exact songs, but Kirk did go a little wah crazy in the 90's. But live, you can expect him to touch the wah at least once a song.

actaully, thingy is in DROPPED D, Sad But true is in D (whole step down) load and reload are Eb (half step down)
st. anger is in Dropped C, and invisible kid is in slipknot tunig which is G#. so there is a complete recprd of tallica downtuning.

In addition to the ones listed above:

The God that Failed is in Eb (but not Don't Tread on Me like the tab book says).

No Leaf Clover is in Eb.

I Disappear is in Eb.

Killing Time is in Eb.

All of the Motorhead covers are in Eb.

Everything on the first disk of Garage Inc is in Eb (except for Sabbra Cadabra which is D, and Free Speach for the Dumb and The More I see which are C#).

Devil's Dance is in D.
The Small Hours is in D.

Minus Human is in dropped D down a half step ("Dropped C#")

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure all of the Ramones covers are in C#.

Posted by StonedColdCrazy on 12/27/04 @ 01:48 PM    Post subject: Re: Which Heavy Metal guitarist is better than Kir

Jimmy Page is the obvious choice but Kirk has that... je ne sai quois... maybe it is the fact that he is in MetallicA, the fact that they go so well together that adds to his music.

Best solo from Kirk?? I would like to say One or Unforgiven... Sanitarium kicks ass as well... any other ideas?

I think the best solos I like from Kirk are from Ride the Lightning and Four Horsemen and from Fade to black and The God that failed.. But for some reason my I always listen to Four Horsemen Just for that Solo at the end sounds like he's killin that damn guitar, its sooooo sweet....

Kill em all
The 4 horsemen

whiplash
seek and destroy

ride the lightning

for whom the bell tolls
fade to black
creeping death

master of puppets
battery
master of puppets
welcome home (sanatriun)
Damage Inc.

And justice for All
blackend
and justice for all
one
harvester of sorrow
dyers eve

black album
enter sandman
sad but true
unforgiven
where ever I may roam
nothing else matters
the god that failed

load
intil it sleeps
king nothing
hero of the day

reload
fuel
the memory remains
unforgiven 2
low mans lyrics

st. anger
st. anger
frantic
all within my hands

sounds like alot, but I like alot of there songs
