i didnt like this album that much, seek and destroy was awesome but the rest sounded punkish i guess thats how metal was back then.

he does use distortion. its kind of hard to hear, but if you listen closely after the part where he goes "seek and destroy" and after after like 8 open e's on guitar you can hear it.

Hmmm think that stelist may have been a little weak, oh well

The Four Horsemen is the best song on the album followed by Seek and Destroy. Actually I agree with master of orion. Anesthesia isn't that great. well it's a great bass solo but it's soooo boooooring to listen to. i always skip it. i'm not a big fan of Jump In The Fire and Metal Melitia either. i think Phantom Lord is the most underrated on this album. they should play it live a lot more.

Metallica themselves played a show with 19 songs in 2004. so they can play a show with 21 songs^^

they play the short shows only because of lars, because lars cant play any longer... when lars is a bit practising, like mountainbiking or jogging or something, and when he stops smoking, he will be okay in about 3 or 4 months.

God, it doesnt even matter get over it, im just saying that it should realisticly a song or two shorter! Anywho back on subject.

i went to the big day out in sydney australia, where they had a second show for the first time cause metallica were playing and it sold out so quickly. they played songs from every album exept for load and reload. did anyone else see them on the st anger tour not playing load or reload songs. (don't really know of any st anger tour as they only played big day out in oz and some private shows). the set was seek and destroy, bells, fade, creeping, battery, puppets, sanitarium, blackened, one, harvester, sandman, sad, nothing, frantic, st anger, dirty windows. Kirk played solo's on the st anger songs.
i like load and reload (maybe not as much as the others) does any one think this is a tad weird.

here we go:

Hit the lights: 9 (good speed song, riffs, lyrics amd solos kick ass)

The Four Horsemen: 10 (killer riffs great lyrics, works awesome live)

Motorbreath: 9 (fast! great drumsolo in the beginning, also awesome live song)

Jump in the fire: 8 (a bit boring but still good, great solo)

Anesthesia(Pulling Teath): 8 (cliff shows what he can do, but four minute bass solo; it gets a little boring)

Whiplash: 10 (it's fucking whiplash motherfuckers, live songs top three, very fast and heavy, awesome all the way)

Phantom Lord: 9 (good, fast; great lyrics)

No Remorse: 8 (a bit boring, great solos by mr. hammet)

Seek and Destroy: 10 (also in live songs top three)

Metal Militia: 8 (great and fast song, with catchy lyrics, but there is something missing)

the whole album: 9- (it's all the same, just fast thrash, except seek amd jump, but great album)

Kirk: 10 (great solo work)
Lars: 9 (drumming is good but it could be better)
Cliff: 9 (I don't like pulling teath that much, but his playing is great no question about it)
James: 9- (yeah, his voice is what it is, but riffs on this album are killers he's the best rhytm guitarist in the world)

Ok I doubt anyone else here was at the 1992 Pittsburgh show that Metallica did for the Metallica/Guns N Roses tour, but that was my first Metallica concert and my first concert (any band) ever. I looked at metlive.com before and they had the show listed, but no setlist. The other day I looked again to see if anyone turned in the setlist again and now the show isn't even listed. I remember they played Seek and Destroy, Creeping Death and Enter Sandman but I can't remember anything else. I remember they did a thing where they took a camera around and all the girls in the crowd showed they stuff and I wasn't allowed to see (my mom was with me as well as my sis). Shit I think my sis still has her ticket stub. I just can't seem to find anything on this show at all though. It's almost as if it never existed and it was just a dream. I lost the shirt I bought to wear to the show and the shirt I bought at the show. I've never seen any bootleg of the show. To make matters worse I used to think they showed Metallica doing sound check at Three Rivers Stadium on the year and a half video. Well once I saw the outtakes from Year and a Half I found out that footage was actually shot in Washington DC at their stadium. The damn thing looks exactly like Three Rivers Stadium, except for the outside. It seems as if someone has just completely erased this show from histroy. Shit I almost want to buy one of the tour shirts from Ebay just to check the date listing.

I kinda rediscovered this album recently, so I'll offer my thoughts track-by-track:

1) Hit the Lights

With what must amount to one of the most awesome intro riffs in history, this song prepares you for what's to come and is kind of an exhibit of Metallica's skill, with blistering solos and riffs that just kick your ass. Awesome, with some fun lyrics.

9/10

2) The Four Horsemen

One can see the birth of what we know today as Metallica in its infancy on this track. With a kickass intro that while simplistic, really gives the song a feel of galloping. There's enough awesome riffs here for an entire album's worth of today's shitty music. The interlude is quite gorgeous and comes as a contrast compared to most of the rest of the album, with an awesome solo over the slow riff. While some people say this song goes on too long, I find that this song is an example of the total loss of attention span people have today. Back in the day, people took their time with songs, allowing the riffs to come full circle by letting them play out. Probably the song of the album, right here.

10/10

3) Motorbreath

With some of Metallica's punk influence showing here, this three-minute ditty is a fun song about the fast-paced life. I can't help but like this song even though it's kinda lame - it's a guilty pleasure.

8.5/10

4) Jump in the Fire

A nice pump-up song, the intro riff kicks ass and I can't help but love the "Come On!" chorus, as juvenile as it may be. A shorter song, but awesome nonetheless. A kickass solo permeates the middle of the song, adding another layer of sweetness to the track, and a nice lead-out solo. Good stuff.

5) Anaesthesia (Pulling Teeth)

I can't really say I love this bass solo, because I don't play the instrument. However, it's quite remarkable what Cliff did with a couple of effects that make you think you're listening to a guitar solo. Interesting, but it's a skipper for me.

6) Whiplash

While possibly containing the lamest lyric Metallica has ever written, even though I still love to hear it ("we'll never stop, we'll never quit 'cause we're Metallica!"), this song is a nice headbanger. Awesome solos throughout, and it's just a fun song in general.

8.5/10

7) Phantom Lord

While it's inherently geeky to be writing about some kind of "Phantom Lord", I still like this song. This one definitely brings the obsession with the word "leather" to the forefront. I really like the short interlude, similar to that of the Four Horsemen - gives us a little break from the thrashing, and is quite melodic - I wish it had lasted a bit longer, with another little solo ditty overtop of it. I can't help but like James' screech at the end, either.

No Remorse

The only track on the album that even approaches serious lyrics, this one has an AWESOME intro riff and delves into the lack of remorse one begins to develop for one's deeds after being sent to war. This would be the precursor to the trend of anti-war songs that continued with Disposable Heroes and One, but is obviously not even close to the standards those songs set. I love the chorus, and it hits home pretty hard considering the rest of the album's demeanor. You can hear the lack of mercy in James' lyrics when he sings "No Remorse, No Regret". Nice one, guys.

9) Seek and Destroy

The song everyone knows from this album and has become a staple in their live shows, Metallica brings us another fun "fight song" with a great chorus to get crowds pumped and chanting. While the lyrics are repetitive and silly, the riffs are downright infectious and get under your skin until you just GOTTA hear this song one more time.

9.5/10

10) Metal Militia

The album's final call-to-arms for metalheads, this one has the ridiculously insane fastpaced intro we all know. I don't love this song, it's a fun headbanging way to end the album, though. I like a couple of the riffs, but I think it's a weak point of the album.

To conclude, I think this album is pretty darn awesome. Yes, the lyrics are juvenile, bordering on ridiculous at times - and dammit, enough about leather! The production is pretty poor, but its to be expected with the situation of the time. I actually like the shoddy production of the album - I prefer these versions to the live ones, and I can't explain it other than it's just so...honest and no-bullshit.

Still, it's a monumental step in defining and shaping metal into the force it was in the 80s and early 90s. Even though it's not their best album, it's still incredibly fun to listen to and is a great headbanger all the way through!

metallica played all of the call of ktulu lastnight. and during seek and destroy, kirk and rob each sang a verse. its obvious that james is having trouble singing some of these sets that lars makes up (watch the vids). they finally put an instrumental in there to give james a break. hopefully sometime soon theyll play the king of all instrumentals: ORION! How nice would that be? i wonder how kirk and rob sounded singing the verses. PEACE

This gig was played in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 13th in 2004. Venue was Thomas and Mack Center.

Show starts with Blackened, quite usual when we talk about Madly in Anger with the World Tour setlist. They perform it very well like usual. Then comes Fuel and after that quite surprisingly Seek And Destroy. It’s interesting to see how Seek fits beginning of the set. Guess what, it fits perfectly. They play it pretty good which isn’t any surprising because they play it almost every show. Before Fade to Black Kirk does his regular doodle. Fade is excellent like always, Kirk does good job in his solos. Then James introduces Rob and Lars, and true fan know exactly what that means. Oh yeah, For whom the Bell Tolls with this Lars & Rob intro. Excellent live song, and this show makes no exception. Kirk does some solo thingy in the end of the song. Next James needs some help. Oh yeah, it’s Frantic. No surprise they play this one. They play it almost every time.

Then comes I Disappear with this great new intro. I don’t know about you, but I sure like it. Sometimes they have little bit problems with beginning the song, but this time it goes without hussle and they perform it perfectly. Then comes surprise song, The Unnamed Feeling. I always wait screw ups when I hear special song, but there isn’t any big mistakes in this one compared to album version. Tempo could be a little faster, but I can’t complain. This song sounds really good live. Next one is Sad But True. It’s good song, but somehow I don’t think it fits in this setlist. Anyhow, then James needs 1-2-3-4, and here it comes, the Creeping Death. Crowd sure know their duty, DIE comes loud and clear. Fucking awesome song gets followed by another fucking awesome song: Battery. Las Vegas seems to be alive, and so is band. They sure have energy tonight.

Disc 2 begins with Saaiint Angeer, like James begins it. I think they play this time album version, because it feels and seems so long (7.43). This one rocks live too. Then Kirk does his second doodle, aka Melbourne. Crowd shows respect when they begin Nothing Else Matters. This song really has it’s own feeling. Slow song changes to bit faster when they continue to Master of Puppets. People wonder if they play short version that song. Nothing to worry about, it’s full version, with sing along in the middle. Then comes One with it’s massive pyro intro. This song needs to be in Metallica setlist, without questions. “Last” song like always is Enter Sandman. After that they thank audience and say good night. But you know Metallica, they don’t stop playing yet. That’s right, two more songs to come. And this time those are Commando (Ramones cover) and No Remorse. Commando really kicks ass. Rob and Kirk sing quite much in this song, especially Rob. And they play song really good, it’s great one. Then James ask do they (Las Vegas) need more. Of course they need. Metallica gives them No Remorse. You don’t hear this song every night so it sure hits the spot. Fucking awesome way to finish great gig. This setlist gives no remorse so I recommend this gig highly.

Seek and Destroy

Well as mentioned he plays the slower-heartfelt solos in puppets, orion, nothing else matters and whiskey (originals). However, live he does play a part of Kirks solo in Seek and Destroy where Kirk usually stops and starts in between riffing. James had also played a solo on top of Kirks solo during whiplash (live in Mexico 93). Also at the end of the one solo during the harmony part, Kirk and James have a back and forth solo duel before finally going back into that lead section (SanDiego 92). So yeah, James ocassionally rips out the old solo!

I;ve had this 2 two record live show of Metallica at the Felt Forum in New York City, on december 1, 1986. It is a limitied edition of 500, and I have copy 138. Its from Jester Productions. The front cover has a Brunette model named Adriana holding a sniper rifle, and the only title on the front is "Assassin". Back cover has pick of band (hammet, hetfield, ulrich, burton) and track listing as follows:

Anyone ever see the Cliff 'Em All DVD? Ever watch Seek and Destroy on there? Anyone ever notice that James uses upstrokes for the chorus? Next question- Who said Kirk didn't write half those riffs? From what I understood he wrote quite a few. Is there a list somewhere?

The first songs I started on were No Remorse and Seek and Destroy. I figured the earliest stuff would be easiest to learn. For Whom the Bell Tolls, Am I Evil, Jump in the Fire are some easy ones to play.

Seattle had way more enegry to it than San Diego. I like the album but they needed to change the "black" setlist more often. Not enough variety. James into in Blackened is awesome as ever, and good choice to finish with Breadfan. They should not have dragged out seek and destroy, and puppetz is too short. I liked through the never live.

i saw them in ft lauderdale florida it was fuckin awsome james put on a fuckin show!!! rob played orion solo which made tears come out of my eyes , kirk played this crazy 2minute solo behind the back of his head then with his teeth and lars was beating the shit outta the drums

whoa ur right... i just went to my first concert yesterday, and they supposedly finished with enter sandman. Everyone started going ONE MORE SONG! ONE MORE SONG! and it was quiet and dark for a while, then james said "we're not fucking goin anywhere." everyone cheers, and 'tallica rips into frayed ends of sanity. Then he says "well, we can't do anything, we have to go now, bye!" and everyone keeps going like one more song, one more song, so he goes back on stage and says, "ah, you guys deserve it." he goes into seek and destroy. I thought they just chose that randomly, i didnt no they actually planned it. W/e, it was an awesome ender, james went like "SEARCHING..." and everyone in the center screamed SEEK AND DESTROY!

i have a sick medley idea, its more than a medley, coz they play most of the songs, but here goes, this is one that would catch the audience like a bitch!

nothing else matters - intro, right up till where the drums kick in then into...

dyers eve! - intro, 1st verse, chorus, then we kick into...

fade to black, just after the intro (0.52 seconds in) then the 1st verse, then the guitars fade out into...

SEEK AND DESTROY! - the intro, then into the jamming part @ about 5:50 then fade out into...

I GOT SOMETHING TO SAY! - LAST CARESS - the whole thing coz its so short...

then we kick into No remorse to finish it off!

What a rush!
