Fight Fire With Fire is my choice. Its such an aggressive song it would send the crowd mental. Its was the opener back in the mid 80's during the ride the lightning tour. I have a bootleg from that tour and it sounds awsome.

The only Metallica dream I had was when they were in the middle of a concert and started to play Fight Fire With Fire but suddenly James voice sounded like it did on Ride The Lightning and they did it so fast, I guess it was cooler for me haha.

Yeah ive noticed that too. Also in the classic albums album dvd, you hear them turn up a harmony that james did for the intro to the unforgiven which isnt very prominent in the final mix but sounded awesome all the same. :-*
That was a great video. I wish they'd do one for every album. I'd love to hear more specifics about the recording processes for Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning

Ok I guess I'll narrow my most treasured posession down to a couple videos. So here they are.
(1) Video tape of Cliff playing with one of his first bands, Agents of Misfortune at their highschool talent show. Circa 1981
(2) Video tape of 1983 concert with Dave and Cliff playing together, I think it's the March 19th gig if not it's March 5th.
(3) Video boot of 1985 Metal Hammer Fest, too bad the camera cuts out on Ride the Lightning, but they did capture the debut of Disposable Heroes.

just in my opinion, james wasnt too good in kill em all.ride the lightning he got better but was still too young, save for fade to black which he sings so well.master of puppets is just as good, then justice for all came.honestly, the songs werent great but his voice sure was.then black album cemented that with what i feel is his best singing(and this time there were good songs).later it just got more rough which is good, but i like the black album singing.

I'm with LAL. No one with a real musical ear could deny that the symphony album was a great piece of music.
Then again, this is VH1, the same people who did that hideous Top 100 Songs of the Last 25 Years list.  The only Metallica entry was Sandman at #88, and Sandman is like Metallica's 20th best song. They completely left off Fade to Black, Puppets, One, Ride the Lightning, Orion, Ktulu, Damage Inc, - all of which should have been there and okay, maybe I'm a little biased. But the top 100 were terrible. Look the freaking thing up - it will make you mad.

aww, isnt that nice dansj...
and james's voice always fit the album. Kill 'Em All was james at his youngest, and he hadn't developed his singing growl yet, so he screamed into the fuckin mic, and SAVE ME JEBUS what fine screaming it was. Perfect thrash album. Ride the lightning he started singing, and it was awesome. Master is their best album, and james had started singing. Justice and black, james had his defining growl. Now on load, his voice became bluesy, and I think it fit him great. It is, strangely, one of my favorite albums. Reload i didnt like much, but his voice is great. St. anger, good album, good voice.

Let's make it alternative and leave out the classic "crowd pleasers"

Orion (starting off with an instrumental? Why not?)
Ride the Lightning
...And Justice for All
St. Anger medley (Frantic, Sweet Amber, Shoot Me Again, My World, All Within My Hands, Some Kind of Monster)
The Unforgiven (to replace Fade or Sanitarium)
The Outlaw Torn
The Call of Ktulu
My Freind of Misery
*Ununsually long guitarsolo/jam
The Unnamed Feeling
Trapped Under Ice
----------------
The Unforgiven II (also to replace Fade or Sanitarium)
Disposeable Heroes (to replace MoP)
Low Man's Lyric (to replace NEM)
Bleeding Me (to replace One)
Fixxxer (to replace Sandman)
----------------
To Live is to Die

There are only 16 songs here, but the majority of them are very long.

post here the albums you think every fan of Metal should own
I don´t know many that´s why I start this thread
cause I feel that Metal is the only direction of music that I will love until death

for me it´s

Metallica - Ride the lightning
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Metallica - ...and justice for all
Manowar - The Triumph of Steel
...
(I don´t really have a lot of Metal albums)

I could hook you up to the 3 metallicA's CD-R, I got all MetallicA studios and then some and I do have quite a collection of metal shit I have about  W.A.S.P., Metal Church, Reverend, Fight, Judas Priest, Headpins, Muthas Day Out, C.O.C., Type O Negative, Overkill, Danzig, Blue Osyster Cult, Twisted Sister, Widowmaker, Sword, Crimson Glory, Death Angel and all kinds of shit in between them. I want to get some Anvil, Phandamodium (I think I spelled that right, but, I know I murdered it), and some Dirty Looks on CD. Man I might have to get a list together of the CD's that I have, you guys are getting my hear a pumping.

bush is who i support, and mainly for the reason that democrats want to stop me from owning guns, are anti-hunters, think that all the fucking poor mexicans (not to be racist) should get free shit when we have to pay, dont want me to ride ATVs and dirtbikes because they ruin the enviroment, when a dirtbike pollutes 1/10th that of a car, and they are the ones who accuse metallica and iron maiden of being satanists and dont think that anyone is responsible for things they do, want to get rid of the death penalty when fuckers like tim mcvea deserved it, think that criminals are mistreated and should have lesser sentances "OH, ITS NOT HIS FAULT HE KILLED HER BECAUSE SHE WAS CHEATING ON HIM" well FUCK THAT! AND I COULD GO ON FOR HOURS SO YOU PROBOBLY GET THE PICTURE!!!!

If you guys payed attention you would know that Republicans also want to ban guns, the only reason the recent "assault's weapons bill" wasnt reinstated by Bush, was because if he didnt sign the bill the NRA was going to choose the Candidate that didnt ban that bill. Tt was a political move by Bush and I think when someone does that shit, they cant be trusted, because they show that for political reason they might take the wrong stance.  I'm not a Republican or Democrat, I tend to vote for the candidate that seems to have more reason and the one I believe can do a better job as President.  Also, Republicans are the ones who are more conservative and have all this shit like the FCC cracking down on people like Howard Stern and they try to ban "violent" videogames.  They would also love to get everyone to live in a 50s life style, and ban a buch of stuff they think is to "liberal" or immoral, but we cant go back in time, we have to move forward.  The reason why California usually goes Democrat is because Replublicans try to ban to much shit and they try to control and patrol everything we watch on TV or even listen on the radio.  And about the death Penalty, I think it's better to keep this fucker alive in some sort of shithole somewhere, death is not enough to repay for what they have done.  Metallica said it best in "Ride the Lightning", who are we to play God... plus there are many flaws in our system and many innocent people have died because of these flaws.  If want to see what I'm talking about, rent a movie called "The Life of David Gale" and you will see how the death penalty can do more harm then good; seriously, check out that movie, it's great, everyone should see it!.

The assault weapons ban was not reinstated because it only banned a small amount of certain model firearms. For example. Say the ak-47 was banned. The manufacturer could change one detail, like the rear sight, call it the ak-48 and it would be legal. If there is to be a ban,it has to be more general so it includes future weapons as well. Howard is doing the right thing by going to sat. radio. Ever since he got divorced, his show has become whiney and he acts like he is #1 on  Bush's hitlist. I'm sure his fans  appreciate him going to a service that they now have to pay for and buy equipment to receive his signal.
On the death penalty.
We live in an age where DNA can prove conclusively if a person is wrongly accused or not. If you are found guilty of a crime and the sentence is death, DNA evidence should be considered about the only way to put someone on death row. If there is still doubt, imprisonement works but I don't want to pay for some shit to live in jail.

EDIT: could you possibly make me a sig with the Ride The Lightning font that says "The Creeping Death" in the left upper corner. Then below that can it have a pic of Lars, then can you possibly put the electric chair on the right side. all of this with the lightning backround. give it your best shot and im sure it'll be fine. i really appreciate this.

Agreeing with what everyone else said, I'll add this. If they play faster it can cut a lot of time off the track. I read somewhere about how on the Master of Puppets tour they got Ride the Lightning down to a 3 minute song.

I;ve had this 2 two record live show of Metallica at the Felt Forum in New York City, on december 1, 1986. It is a limitied edition of 500, and I have copy 138. Its from Jester Productions. The front cover has a Brunette model named Adriana holding a sniper rifle, and the only title on the front is "Assassin". Back cover has pick of band (hammet, hetfield, ulrich, burton) and track listing as follows:

Intro, Battery, Master of puppets, for Whom the Bell Tolls, Sanitarium, Ride the Lightning, bass solo, Whiplash, Thing That Should Not Be, Fade to Black, Seek and Destroy, Creeping Death, Four Horsemen, guitar solo (labled "The Hamster's Rage") Am I Evil?, Damage Inc., Fight Fire with Fire, and Blitzkrieg

It's in very good condition and has plastic sleeve with it. Anyone ever seen this, and any idea its value. Thanks.

Album: Ride The Lightning

1. Fight Fire With Fire: A thrashy heavy song about the world ending due to nuclear warfare.  Fast and Aggressive.  On a side note Metallica's first song featuring an acoustic intro. 9/10
2. Ride The Lightning: The first album named song.  Heavy and Thrashy with a nice touch of brutality.  Very catchy catchy song.  Only drawback is that Jaymz's vocals can get irritating. 8.5/10
3. For Whom The Bell Tolls: Heavy song oddly based on an Ernest Hemmingwhey(sp?) STORY.  Heavy and great bass by Mr. Cliff Burton.  No solo which costs it a point but a half point due to the very cool interlude. 9.5/10
4. Fade To Black: The first ballad by Metallica.  Touching lyrics about suicide.  Guitar in this song has amazing emotion.  My favorite of the soft songs. what the hell it gets 10/10
5. Escape: The infamous Escape that has never been played live.  It's a good fast song but a tad bit of a mainstream sound to it.  Good nontheless.  8/10
6. Trapped Under Ice: Much like Escape except faster and heavier.  I still love it. 8.5/10
7. Creeping Death: Fast. Heavy. Brutal. Feirce.  I love it except live it is much better. 8/10
8. Call Of The Ktulu: Awesome instrumental.  My favorite song off of Ride The Lightning.  Sweet bass too.  I love the way this song has the ability to go on for so long but not drag out. 10/10

Ride The Lightning is a must have for any Metallica fan so if you don't have it BUY IT NOW!  Final grade 9/10

Posted by tallicablack99 on 11/20/04 @ 12:47 PM    Post subject: This pissed me off

This morning I was in a book store and they had books on the best selling albums from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. I looked at the ones from the 70s, 80s, and 90s and something really got to me. It didn't bother me so much that in the 70s book that Black Sabbath's Paranoid was only #63 and sold 4 million albums (although for its time that was awesome) and that their Debut wasn't in their at all (I wasnt surprised by it but IMO I think its better than Paranoid).

I read the 80s book and I was glad to see where Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All ended up. Puppets was #49(it sold 6.1 million) and Justice was #39(it sold 7.1 million). Thats awesome numbers since Metallica was still somewhat of an unknown, although their music video for "One" probably changed that a little. I was a little disappointed that Ride The Lightning wasn't on there and I thought Ozzy's Blizzard of Oz did better than what was shown,it was #100 with 4.1 million sold, although that is still very good.

Now we come to the 90's book and this is where I got very angry. Metallica's Black Album we all now was huge success and it shows in the book. It was #12 with 13.3 million sold. Now that is just amazing but what made me furious was the albums in front of it. There was Britney Spears debut which was at #10 and sold 600,000 more copies than the Black Album and there were 2 FUCKIN BACKSTEET BOYS albums ahead of it. WOW. I knew those albums sold alot but shit that much? These people arent even around anymore. They were a fuckin fad, they dont have talent. I cant believe a Backstreet boys album sold 16 million!!!!!!!!!WTF is wrong with people? I know I am overreacting but I found it pretty shocking that they sold that much and were ahead of something truly amazing.

james' lyrics relate to many different situations. just because you didn't write them doesn't mean you don't have situations that are similar to what he describes in his lyrics.  he's always written his lyrics for him.  he did both the old and new lyrics for himself, not for what sounds "cool" or what the fans want to here.  "ride the Lightning" is about james' fear of being forced to do something you don't want to do. he just felt best expressing that with those lyrics. do ya think he'd still be here if he really got electricuted?  many of his songs have multiple meanings.  "Devil's Dance" can be about being conned into doing drugs or something harmful. it could also be about some chick you like who feels the same about you. "yeah, i feel you too" "in your eyes i see the fire that burns to free the you"maybe that lyric is about being honest about how you feel about someone rather than holding it back out of fear of the outcome. anyways, you probably get my point and i'm tired of typing so i'm ending this post here
