| Post it ;D You asked for it...
This is from me sitting on my ass actually watching tv with the VCR remote in my hand. None of these are downloaded its all been taped from a little over 3 years.
It's not updated, so when I say 850 it's a rough estimate. This was last updated on Dec 26th, I am now at least 25 videos ahead of that.
Anyhow, as requested...see my downward spiral from humble nu-metal, rap and pop begginnings to my very first Metallica and Led Zep videos... ;D 8) This collection is my pride.

I'd like to remind you of something:
"Hey guys! I've got a great idea! Why dont we NOT have any solo's on Saint Anger? I mean that would be kickass and trendy and ...oooohhh shiny...! Oh also! I'm gonna turn off my snare because it sounds like the noise I do when I do my midget shits! That sounds sooooo coooolll!!!! Man I rule..."
'Nuff said
Let me guess, you became a fan of Metallica just as Napster was going on, and it was cool among all your school friends to hate Lars, and say Metallica sold out. Just the impression I get from your post. (Amazing! Some of your other posts seem reasonably inteligent, yet you still manage to sound like a 13 year old in this one)
Although you might not think Lars' ideas were "sooooo cooolll", a couple of other million people did who bought, and liked, the album. Although (assuming you are a fan of Metallica) you must like some of Lars' ideas, considering the enourmous influence he has had on the band (he has co-produced at least 6 of the band's albums/releases, and has co-written all but 2 of Metallica's songs).
Think about all the Metallica songs/albums you like, and compare them to all the ones you don't. Now consider the fact that on ALL these albums, even the ones you like, Lars played an integral role.
Consider the fact that if it were not for Lars, Metallica would not exist.
Aside from the fact Lars started the band,
Lars was the one who placed the ad in the Recycler. Lars was the one who brought the name 'Metallica' to the band.
Lars was the one who got Metallica their spot on a record.
Lars was a major factor in Metallica continuing through all the shit they have endured through the past 20 odd years.
Whether you like him or not, the fact remains that Lars cannot be replaced in Metallica. Not becuase of his drumming ability, but because, along with Jaymz and Kirk, HE IS METALLICA. |

First, The reason Dave is getting hated on so much is because of his attitude. He is an asshole, its that simple. He has been holding a grudge for 20 years even though it was his own fault he was thrown out and he also had one of the most sucessful metal bands ever and is not satisfied. Dave started megadeth to get back at james and lars for throwing him out and he has admitted to this. No way did he create the sound of metallica. That was more james than anyone cause megadeth sounds so much different. When he was in metallica, he pretty much only did solo's just like kirk did until later on. Thats how lead guitarists worked back in the 80's. Kirk didnt write any solo's on kill em all, but did give them some flavor cause all dave did was play fast boring scales with hardly any dynamics at all. Thats what kirk did for metallica, played metal solo's differently than every other band at the time. As for the songs sounding the same, the only ones I know are mechanix/four horseman which metallica did steal, but it wasnt copywrited or anything so its legal. They also did come out with the song first, so they win. He did write alot of the solo's on kill em all, but ive heard him play 3 songs from kill em all and kirk destroys him. He fits them so much better. Call of kutulu/hanger 18 is another that is very similar, but for whom the bell tolls/darkest hour sound nothing alike. I really like both and can play all the rhythyms perfectly. They are nothing alike. There are a few others I saw on a site, but those 2 are the only 2 I agree with. Dave can get alittle credit for the sound of kill em all and a little for RTL. But I dont think metallica really got into their sound til Master and he has no part of that. Megadeths first few albums sound alot like kill em all. Metallica was far ahead of them with their sound. Dave also didnt do anything classically for any band. That was all cliff for metallica. Their wasnt really any classical stuff for megadeth til marty friedman came. So he gets no credit for that either. Metallica changed for the better when dave left and for the worse when cliff died. That simple. I like megadeth, but I dont like Dave. He is a good musician, ok lead guitarist (at best), but he's just so pissed off all the time even though he is one of the biggest metal legends. If dave would have stayed, there would have been no megadeth and I dont think metallica would have been as good. And Exodus would have been better too!!
Let's be honest here, Dave Mustaine or Kirk Hammett aren't going to be releasing solo albums any time soon. They simply aren't that talented. The difference between Mustaine and Hammett was that Mustaine could recruit great guitar players and drummers into his band at will. Chris Poland. Marty Friedman. Both of these guitarists are in a totally different league than Mustaine or Hammett. That's why Mustaine went from the LEAD guitarist of Metallica to the RHYTHM guitarist of Megadeth. As for who was better between Hammett and Mustaine, remember that by the time Mustaine had ONE album out he already had his own line of guitars that METALLICA used for the recording of Master of Puppets. |

| man, mustaine deserves a lot more credit than ppl here give him. shit, he basically wrote half of RTL. call of ktulu was totally his, and james even said so in one interview.
metallica's sound up until MOP owes a lot to dave and cliff.
have you guys ever wondered why theres no more 'classical-influenced' songs after AJFA? its cos cliff and dave are gone. the most classical influenced songs since then are UNFORGIVEN (who i damn suspect that its cliffs) and MOTHING ELSE MATTERS (james admitted that it was a fluke, he was playing around with the guitar whilst on the phone)
i'm not a huge megadeath fan, but really...some ppl are hating too much on dave.

| | ive said it before and ill say it again. i used to be the biggest metallica fan ever, i wouldnt even listen to critisism about st. anger. then i decided to buy a little album called The Number of the Beast. maiden didnt become my favorite band until i had 7 albums and rock in rio. then they pushed metallica aside. the more i got into other bands the more i realized that metallica was great, but not the best. i own and love every album with the exception of st. anger. this is an album i have swung back and forth on so many times i cant count. but now i am coming to the realization that with this album, metallica has lost thier identity. load and reload were still metallica, they still had that sound to them. not any more. metallica is like my 5th favorite band right now. they have to have a PERFECT album to bring them back to #2. the whole reason i say that is because maiden is, always has been, and always will be METAL. Metallica has changed everything they once stood for. i still like them, and puppets and justice remain my 2 favorite albums of all time, but i still pick maiden. not to mention that Brave New World and Dance of Death ABSOLUTLEY KILLED all doubt that maiden was back. metallica needs an album to do that, i dont care what style they use as long as it is well written. |

| I DO think Dave Mustaine is a moron. Let's say, hypothetically, he did write all the stuff he claims to have (which I have issues with anyway). So what? While Kill 'em All was an awesome album, let's not pretend it's Metallica's best.
Mustaine is a fucking idiot for releasing Mechanix YEARS after the Four Horsemen. Mechanix is a terrible song, while the Horsemen is a classic.
It's my opinion that Mustaine is just terribly bitter about being kicked out of Metallica. He has noone to blame but himself, though - he had drug problems at the time, and Metallica wasn't into that (yet =/), so they gave him the boot.
Let's face it - Megadeth isn't as good as Metallica. There, I said it. Most people would agree - Megadeth's sound just isn't as refined, the songs aren't as well penned, and Dave Mustaine's voice is no great shakes - it can go from a whine to a REALLY fake snarl in seconds.
I haven't seen the Some Kind of Monster interview with him, but I bet it'll just be him whining about how Megadeth never achieved the success of Metallica and then give excuses about it.
He needs to grow up.
First off the entire truth about Mustaine getting kicked out of Metallica has never been released to the public. If you read more, you'd know that. Second without the Mechanix there would be no horsemen. The reason why it took him a year after Metallica to release the song (Killing is My Business was released in '84) was because he had to get signed first. You can't just go out and record a song and put it on a record and then have it be sold in stores. Besides what the hell does when the song was released on an ablum have to do with anything? He still wrote the fucking thing. Metallica did a great job re-writing the lyrics and adding the bridge, but it didn't really change any after that. In my opinon, YOUR OPINIONS FUCKING SUCK!!! |

| ok, since i was in a hurry when posting before, i didnt get to compare the bands memeber for member, so here it goeses:
Vocals-Bruce hands down. the fucker has more energy than anyone else. i also love his high pitched opera style vocals. it is earsplitting but not thin sounding if you get what i mean.
Metallica:0 Maiden: 1
Guitars-Well, kirk and jaymz are both better than all of maidens guitarists, even though the five of them are awesome. actually, dave and kirk are pretty much tied here, but it goes to metallica because they do thier jobs and do them well.
Metallica: 1 Maiden: 1
Bass: Sorry, maybe if cliff had lived longer things would be different, but steve is the BEST FUCKING BASSIST TO WALK THIS EARTH
Metallica: 1 Maiden: 2
Drumming: Lars, im sorry man, but nicko mcbrian schools your scrwny white ass.
Metallica: 1 Maiden: 3
However, Metallica gets 2 points for variety, because maiden is always the same. now, we all know maiden has 13 albums, metallica has 8, and maiden had a down period after seventh son where they declined in quality, but now they are back so maybey metallica was in the same kind of down period and the next albums will be as good as maidens Brave New World was, wich was the best album since seventh son, maybey tallica will come out with something that will be thier best since justice.
so, in the end its a tie, and both bands kick ass and should collaborate on a song with 5 guitars, 2 bassist, 2 drummers, and bruce on vocals, with jaymz on backup.

| Posted by Lemmy on 01/25/05 @ 02:26 PM Post subject: Re: Metallica vs Iron Maiden | |
| Its a bit hard to compare the two bands. Metallica is a lot more aggressive and heavy than maiden. James and bruce are two completely different vocalists, james growls more which suits metallicas harder sound and bruce has an operatic singing voice and you can say hes a better singer technically because he has more range and stuff. I think james writes better lyrics though, james would be crap in maiden and bruce would be crap in metallica. As far as guitars go i think james is the best rhythm wise but im not sure about who wins in terms of lead, i think metallica has shown much more variation in styles over the years and so overall i think metallica has better guitar work. Steve harris id have to say probably wins the best bass player award just because of the sheer amount he has achieved, cliff might have been better given the chance (i think orion beats any maiden song) but there isnt enough material to go on, newsted was great but again i dont think he had enough of a chance to show what he was capable of, rob hasnt written anything for metallica yet but i dont think people realise quite how good he is yet (he is shit hot). Drums is a draw as far as im concerned, i dont think either drummer is particularly special but lars is great at arranging songs and stuff.
One other thing; i think maiden are still stuck in the 80s while metallica have moved on and become more sucessful because of this.
I dont think one band is more talented than the other but metallica are more influential. btw steve and cliff are maybe the best METAL bass players around but les claypool and flea (pre californication) are way better overall. :P |

| Metal Head:
I dont give a shit about Napster. Somebody was gonna do it eventually so why not Lars?
Secondly: Yay people enjoyed Saint Anger! People also enjoyed Britney Spears and 5ive. People are sheep.
Also I like everything about SA EXCEPT lars' input.
Thirdly: I didnt even bring up Napster! I bought up his shitty advice as proof to why I dont like him!
Fourth: Yes Lars co-founded the band. So fucking what? People have started things and then been replaced.
Fifth: There are better drummers
Finally: As mentioned before, his "creativity" and his "input" has been pieces of shit. In other words he can FUCK OFF
One:
Firstly (and thirdly): If you re-read my reply to you, you'll realise that Napster was mentioned to explain the impression of you I got from your post. I was not saying that this was what you actually believed, but that your post was typical of someone who would hold these views.
Secondly: The fact that other people like St. Anger is testament to the fact that a fuck load of other people did think that Lars' ideas were, at least in part, "sooooo cooool". Just because you don't like something isn't necessarily a reflection of whether or not the ideas that contributed to the result are good.
Thirdly: See first point. Also, what advice are you basing your opinion of him on? Lars' advice on St. Anger was not limited to the presence of solos or the sound of the drums. You say you like everything about St. Anger except Lars' input. But what you apparently fail to realise is that Lars had considerable input on the other things you do like. If you truly like everything except Lars' advice, you wouln't like very much of the album, or any other Metallica album. In reality, it sounds like you're being very selective about what to base your opinion of Lars on.
Fourthly: The fact that Lars started Metallica is merely an example of his importance to the band. I also mentioned others, such as the fact that Lars has played an integral role in writing all Metallica's albums, including the ones you like, with all but 2 of Metallica's songs crediting him as a co-writer, and the fact that Lars was a major factor in Metallica continuing through all the shit they've been through over the last 20 odd years. But you've conveniantly skipped over these. Having said that, I still believe that the fact that Lars started the band is also a factor in his being irreplaceable.
Fifthly: There are also better guitarists and bassists than Rob, Jaymz and Kirk. Like I've said in another post on this thread, it is not just playing ability that makes Metallica great. If it were, a band like Dream Theatre or Frank Zappa's band would be the best band in the world. The fact that there are better drummers out there is irrelevant.
Finally: As I've mentioned before, not all of Lars' ideas have been "pieces of shit" (although I don't really think the ones you've mentioned were pieces of shit). Out of all Lars' input and ideas in over 70 songs on 8 studio albums (not counting - Human or No Leaf Clover), you rationalise your decision not to like Lars or his ideas on his input for two things on one album. If you really think Lars' ideas are pieces of shit, you wouldn't like many Metallica songs. |

And i agree that its fucking pathetic when someone knows like fuel and entersandman and then suddenely thinks that they are king shit. I dont really wear metallica t-shirts anymore, but i feel i dont need to. I dont need to prove to anyone how obsessed i am with metallica. I prove to myself that that they are my fav. band by listening and purchasing their music, watching their dvd's and videos, going to their live shows, playing their songs on drums etc etc. For fuck sake i met a guy who claimed he was a huge metallica fan and then said "ohhh, how good is metallica's 2nd album, blackened". What the fuck is that? |

| post here the albums you think every fan of Metal should own I don´t know many that´s why I start this thread cause I feel that Metal is the only direction of music that I will love until death
for me it´s
Metallica - Ride the lightning Metallica - Master of Puppets Metallica - ...and justice for all Manowar - The Triumph of Steel ... (I don´t really have a lot of Metal albums)
I could hook you up to the 3 metallicA's CD-R, I got all MetallicA studios and then some and I do have quite a collection of metal shit I have about W.A.S.P., Metal Church, Reverend, Fight, Judas Priest, Headpins, Muthas Day Out, C.O.C., Type O Negative, Overkill, Danzig, Blue Osyster Cult, Twisted Sister, Widowmaker, Sword, Crimson Glory, Death Angel and all kinds of shit in between them. I want to get some Anvil, Phandamodium (I think I spelled that right, but, I know I murdered it), and some Dirty Looks on CD. Man I might have to get a list together of the CD's that I have, you guys are getting my hear a pumping.

| This thread is old news, but i dont feel like missing out on such a good topic. Iron Maiden is one of my favorite bands, thier the best live band of all time and they have some really killer songs. One of the first metal cds i ever owned was a burnt cd with 16 iron maiden songs and i played the hell out of that thing. I have all thier dvds and they are great musicians. I love bruce, janick(extremely under-rated), dave, adrien, steve, and nicko. Ive literally grown up listening to these guys. That being said, i like Metallica more. Im not going to say thier more talented because honestly thier not, iron maiden are better musicians. But in my opinion a band really comes down to the songs, plain and simple. You could be the best musician in the world but if you cant write a good song then no ones going to want to listen to, not for very long anyway. Iron Maiden has awesome songs, but metallicas are easier to relate to, and because of james vocals thier more passionate and real. I guess metallica has just always had a very real image to me. Thier just four guys rocking out. Iron Maiden has more of an allmighty rockstar image. I mean did you see what bruce was wearing in rock in rio, no one would wear that on the street. Having the eddy theme is cool but again its not real, neither are all the story songs where theres a character travelling or doing something. I mean look at brave new world, the wicker man, the mariner, the nomad. You know what i mean. It all just comes down to a matter of taste, iron maiden are a metal icon and will go down in history as one of the best bands of all time, so will metallica. Which ones better ultimately is decided by the opinions of each and every fan. Its all metal guys, this isnt a metallica vs korn thread. :P
Agreed. Of course i don't agree with you on the whole Metallica Real shit, but as you jut said, it's all opinions.. :P

So I went on the internet, downloaded some more songs by Metallica, and ever since then, I have become hooked. The first Metallica album I ever purchased was the "Black Album" just because I heard from friends that it was probably the best one to buy. However, when I purchased Master of Puppets, I thought the songs were just as good, if not even better. I thought their sound was absolutely stunning. I couldn't get enough of it. As a result, I went out and bought almost every album they had. Today, I'm still just as hooked. In fact, as your reading this, I am gradually increasing my addiction with Metallica. The lyrics, the explosive sound, the solos, etc... They will always be my favorite band. :) |

| hey guys, i have not been here for a while, but i thought i'd kick off my re-posting here with an invitation
My chapter is hosting an online chat with Brian Slagel.
Don't know who Brian is (shame on you, call yourself a Metallica fan!)
Brian was a highschool friend of Lars, but more important, he started Metal Blade records, the company who published the first Metallica song; his efforts to make a compilation album of Californian Metal got Lars off his arse to make a recording of Metallica!
if you would like to come, the chat is in 6 hours, and is hosted by www.4horsemensite.com - although this site is undergoing maintenance, so click on this link to get to the chat room - http://www.lhcw.net/4horsemen
hope to see some of you there
and if you are interested in my chapter - it is For Whom Metallica Tolls, and you can check us out (and even join) at www.forwhommetallicatolls.org.ru - we are net-based, so you can be from anywhere! |

| | No one stole anything, Dave claimed he had a big part of some songs, but no songs did he write completely. The four Horsemen was a big part of what Dave wrote but Dave got threw out, they slowed it down, changed some parts and changed the lyrics, Metallica always said it was Daves idea but Dave was kicked out and they used the material. Cliff added his style too it and Kirk added his style. Its just Megadeth fans who dont like Metallica creating shit but he had alchohol problems and growing heroin addictions which were getting on James and Lar' nerves because James and Dave would fight alot on stage and had alot of disagreements. Dont hate Metallica for kicking him out cos' anyne else would have kicked him too the kurb. Love them for kicking him out and inspiring him too create Megadeth, after all there wouldnt have ever been a Megadeth without Metallica. Also, it wasnt Metallicas fault why he got kicked, even when he created Megadeth, there has been constant disputions and arguements and changes in the Band ebcause people disagree with his addictions and his ideas, plus hes also been in rehab so doesnt that tell you how bad he was and how fucked up he was ??? No one copied anyone, they both used material they had. |

| I like james' vocals much better than bruces... well those st. anger voclas are whole different and maybe not that good but james has got the attitude... but bruce takes his crowd brilliantly I think as many of you said before that kirk is better lead guitarist than any of maiden... but three guitars sound better if metallica had three kirk hammets...(huh :-/) James is an amazing rhytm guitarist! beats the maiden dudes sixteen to zero... i don't know too much about that maiden bassist but i just say that cliff was the master of bass, jason is not that good and rob is little better than him(jason) lars has gone a bit down from his erlier days, he was an amazing drummer that time, but he still beats that maiden guy(don't know his name)
Now that was just about the skills of the bandmembers, a band can not be good with skillfull members who can't take their crowd... i havent' seen maiden playing live but i've heard... rock in rio is great! bruce really takes his crowd (as i said before) and then metallica: James is awesome in that too but I think jason was even better... he banged hs head like an animal and he never forgot fans rob still has much to learn about that... and in the end I must say I like Metallica music much better than maidens So the result is this: Metallica rules, maiden is the good number two... |

| It was Oct 7 in Ottawa.. they hadnt played in my hometown since 1997, when I was ignorant of the whole MetallicA world.. heh. I got the download too, and burned it to a CD.. I couldnt stop listening to it!
I wrote a kind of review for it in my journal, but it's mostly my own thoughts, so it's not terribly insightful, just "OMG THIS TOTALLY RULES!"
Thanks, L.
I was at Ottawa too, awesome show... ;)Were you in a seat? I ended up right up against the barricades. I caught four guitar picks (I gave one up to the guy beside me though. Scott deserved to walk out of there with a guitar pick more than ANYONE for his sweet hand drawn banner of the Tallica Boys!), briefly spoke to James and Kirk and I'm in two pictures on metontour.com:
http://www.metallica.com/ivergence/image/oct704_22.jpg <--Scott's banner...AMAZING. All of the guys in Metallica went wide eyed when they saw it James was kind enough to sign it for him!!!! http://www.metallica.com/ivergence/image/oct704_14.jpg <---My banner...nothing special...just the fruits of not being able to sleep the night before the show. All it took was white out, a black flag, gold spray paint and the scary guy stencil. Cheap, but apparently very effective. (I'm the blonde girl in both pictures. ;D)
I hear you on the journal thing...lol...I kept a 'journal' of all the events leading up to the concert. No joke! I started it on July 30th (the night I found out they were coming to Ottawa) and typed up all the happenings to do with the show and how damned awesome it was meant to be etc. 8)

| i think it wud be easy to replace lars, fuck i think i could do it, i been playing drums 4 years now, and can play plenty of tallica songs!
You're wrong, it would not be easy to replace Lars. What you fail to realise is that it is not just playing ability that makes Lars as good as he is, it is his creativity and interaction within the band. There are plenty of great drummers out there, but they would not necessarily be able to fit in with the band like Lars does, or take and fill all the other roles within the band that Lars does.
Don't forget that Lars not only handles the drumming, but he also basically handles the arrangments for the songs. Not to mention all the interaction with the business side of things and his role as the spokesman, both of which have almost as much to do with Metallica's success as their music.
There is also a BIG difference between being able to play songs, and being able to write songs. Just because you can play Metallica's songs, doesn't mean that you would be able to write them. Having said that, I'm curious as to which songs you can play, and doubt that you can play all the songs in Metallica's catalogue.
i agree with whoever said u shud be run over. i think james should hunt you for game u fuckin moron, the day u get up in front of 60,000 people and slam out the solo for one in true metallica style, i will ease up and accept im wrong, until then, curl up and die u fuckin square.
This is just fucken stupid, and something I'd expect from a school kid. Getting so worked up about someone talking about a band is pretty childish. I know Jaymz doesn't get so worked up, why the fuck should you? |

It surely is.. theres 'heavy metal', 'thrash metal'....and theres 'metallica'.
Metallica alone is a genre...

| (this is what i meant to ask before, but I said and justice for all, where I meant to say the black album) :-/
If you measure the speed of Metallica's songs by how fast Lars drums, what do you think was Metallica's fastest song after the release of the 1991 album Metallica? |

| | I was reading some reviews of Metallica's albums and I came across a portion of a Justice review that said "Metallica made their most ambitious and least accessible album." That leads me to my question, which album do you feel is for Metallica fans only? Do you think its Justice or another album? Its certainly not the Black Album. |

| | i started lisening to the 'lighter side of metallica like until it sleeps and memory remains and i thought they were ok. i bought load and i thought it was good. then i picked a random metallica album, and justice for all and i was blown away. i then bought puppets and that sealed the deal. Metallica were the best band EVER!! |

| | ....mmmm, I've heard this question before, oh well. Wasn't allowed to listen to Metallica, my mum thought that I was too young to listen to them, seeing as she's inlove with James (like mother like daughter I guess :P) I first got and justice for all just so I could have "one". Then I fell for the magic that is Metallica and haven't looked back since. ;D Metallica!! |
