I dont think they can play songs just like they are in the studio versions. The reason behind that is many songs are composed of several guitars the same time (Master of puppets, Wherever I may Roam, Nothing Else Matters, Fade to black etc.)

The other reason is that sometimes they use weird effects that might not anable them to play certain songs as they are.

I personlly think that some of the things they add are cool, some of which have been mentioned by other users here. I see you forgot the riff James adds in Fade to black before the last solo. I think it is really cool.

One thing I agree on with Leper Messiah TR is that, nowadays, they fuck up some songs by not playing it completely (Blackened, for example).

As for the childish episode displayed by Leper Messiah. Well .. Chill out man, it is not worth it !

why does everybody hate leper messiah?

yeah, scofield makes good points. I dont quite agree with leper messiah tr though, but he does back it up.

That's a kick ass setlist as well man. I love putting No Remorse 2nd and Leper Messiah 3rd, it fits in so perfectly into any setlist.

cunning is probably one of the most coolest, ass-kicking show i've ever watched!!! the band is so full of energy, as well as the crowd!first, they played the demo of fuel, the jason/kirk doodles are awesome, and right after that, nothing!!! what tha fuck!!!!! also, the kill-ride medley is fucking pretty out of this world! dont forget the leper messiah's jam is awesome, with lars and jason jaming for a while!!!!! and the accident, i just couldnt belive what i was watching!!!!!

hi! as it's only been 15 minutes since my girl and I lastly banged our heads (but not only) listening to Met, my advice is this: first:
fade to black
then (stay cool hey, but quicken up the pace) sanitarium, then go for it frankly (leper messiah, creeping death, blackened) after that you'll need to cool down a bit so why not try a little sandman and to finish, either ktulu, orion, or, if you're not too tired, both.
But, as it's been 6 years since you last entered the golden sanctuary, maybe a Blitzkrieg should be enough.....

I understand your anger! Really!!! I have just seen Fahrenheit 9/11 yesterday on television. Michael Moore has just the same opinion as I have. I really understand your anger. It´s making me angry, too. Nothing really changed since the Empire of Rome. Now we have american imperialism! (Is that how you call it). America wants to expand, like they always did. Expand to the west, now they want world-expansion, and they also want to expand to the Mars..... And they keep people dumb by lying and they make a sacrifice (they sacrifice poor people!)....nothing seems to change.

I think blackened is THE opener
Hit the lights could rock but blackened is just better I know it

also... i'd replace fuel with Motorbreath and Sandman with
Eye of the Beholder/Metal Militia/Leper Messiah

They need to play Disposable Heroes more often and Leper Messiah. Some of the Garage Days Re-Visited songs would be cool too like Crash Course or The Wait. I'm not really tired of hearing any of the songs, it's just I already know most of the ways James sings it or special things they do when they play live so it's not quit exciting anymore. However I did hear one version of something the other day that sounded a bit different.

I cannot play the solos for lack of experience but I love the main riffs of Battery ad Leper Messiah. I just started looking at Seek and Destroy and it seems easy so i guess i'll learn that one also !

You'd be surprised, there's more than a handful of songs WITHOUT wah solos.
Here is some stuff...this 'wah guide' is STRICTLY for solos on the STUDIO albums (not their live renditions), some songs you may think that have wah effects actually have other effects such as delay, flanger, etc. I've only done their first 5 albums (I didn't include Load and Reload because I'm not too familiar with a lot of those songs aside from the obvious like Fuel, Outlaw, Memory, etc). This may not be 100% correct but it's pretty close.

IF you count the improv. at the end of "For Whom the Bell tolls" then yes, it has wah in it.

REMEMBER, the non-wah solos probably have a different effect to them...so if you think there's wah in it, there actually isn't.

I agree with this list except I am pretty sure that there is a wah used in Leper Messiah after the sweeping. I dont listen to load/reload enough to tell you exact songs, but Kirk did go a little wah crazy in the 90's. But live, you can expect him to touch the wah at least once a song.

Until It Sleeps: As I said before I don't really like the "Load" songs, but this one sounds really nice on this DVD. The guitars, drums, bass, singing is all great, and that makes this a really nice preformance.

*For Whom The Bell Tolls: This is the second highlight of the DVD, so to speak. I've just started to really like this song, and this preformance doesn't dissapoint. James has alot of energy, Kirk has alot of energy, Lars and Jason also do... The crowd is oing wild.. Before you know it your pumped up, and by the time the song is done you wanna listen to it again.

Wherever I May Roam: This is one of the nicest preformances I have seen for this song. If you like this song, you won't be dissapointed. Again, lots of energy.

****Fade to black: This is the crziest version of fade To Black ever. It sounds so good, and what really helps i the fact that James is flawless. Kirk is flawless. Lars is flawless. And Jason is just.... singing with some girl in the crowd.. Overall this is the best song on this DVD, one of the best live preformances EVER, and just this song is worth your money.

*Kill/Ride Medly: This is so cool. It goes: Ride the Lightning, No Remorse, Hit The Lights, Four Horsemen, Seek, Fight Fire With Fire. It is really cool. Its like 13 minutes long, and it sounds so good!

Last Caress: They open this up p;aying Leper Messiah! They don't sing it but it sounds really cool. As for last Caress.... its OK

Master of Puppets: This starts out sounding like a seet version of MOP, and then they dont play the 2nd half of the song. they dont even play the interlude. What are they thinking? Besides that it sounds sweet.

*Enter Sandman: Most people say this is your average "Sandman" preformance but it is really nice in my ears. And at the end....... Some flaming guy runs up on the stage. Its cool.

Am I Evil? With some of the stage dstroyed, they play Am I Evil? Kirk has a cool guitar, and the song itself sounds cool. James once again sounds good.

Motorbreath: In my ears this is a highlight, but I don't think other people will think that. Nice way to end it.

+ The band has alot of energy
+ From Fuel to the end of disc this DVD is crazy
+ Sound is really good
+ Bonus material is cool

- From Beginning of Disc to Fuel, it kina lacks something
- Crowd is edited aout a little too much, still lots of energy

Battery: 9 (works awesome live i don't listen to the album version very much any more)

Master of Puppets: 10 (a fucking legend)

The Thing that should not be: 8 (my least favorite from this album)

Sanitarium: 10 (also a legend, awesome solos)

Disposable fucking Heroes!!: A FUCKING 10++++ (that song is fuckin too awesome BACK TO THE FRONT:: IFUCKING LOVE IT MOTHERFUCKER GODAMMIT)

Leper Messiah: 10 (awesome,lyrics and riffs kick ass)

ORION: 10 oh yeah (just so beautiful and yet so heavy instrumental with three ass kicking guitar solos and a bad ass bass solo) RIP CLIFF

Damage Inc: 9 (great lyrics and kick ass riffs)
fantastic album all the way

Kirk: 10- his best album definietly
Lars: 10- Disposable heroes damage inc (FUCK!!)
Cliff: 10- no question about it
James: 9.5- his singing voice wasn't the best back in those days but awesome guitar work

Overall, Puppetz is a way better album.

this is another one of my favorite album, i like it even more than RTL. it has alot of my favorite songs. the album alot of people would say Metallica is best known for.

1. Battery - a very good song, definitely one of the best songs on the album. starts of a little bit slow but its an awesome song. Right up there with MoP. This one gets an A-.

2. Master of Puppets - probably the most known song of the album and even of all Metallica songs. Its pretty long, but it doesn't get boring. I couldnt justify myself giving this anything lower than an A. Obey your master and go buy this album if you havent already.

3. The Thing That Should Not Be - probably not the best song on the album but it's still a decent tune. i personally think the song is pretty good so i'll give it a B.

4. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - another pretty popular song. sounds very good and is a little different than the rest of this pretty heavy album. another of my personal favorites so it gets a B+.

5. Disposable Heroes - this has been one of my favorite songs for a long time. i especially like the lyrics to the song. one of its only drawbacks i can think of is that the intro is a bit long. this is a great song, one that is often left unnoticed. LISTEN TO IT NOW.

6. Leper Messiah - this is not my favorite song on the album, but not every song can be the best. despite not being the "best" it is still a good song and should get recognition. this song is also pretty heavy, like most of the album. this one gets a B-/B.

7. Orion (Instrumental) - like all Metallica instrumentals, this one is good. probably at the top of the list of my favorite Metallica instrumentals. After awhile it does get repetitive but it's for the most part a great song. this one gets a B.

8. Damage, Inc. - this is a pretty good song, also pretty heavy. a kinda slow start but it gets pretty good. this is probably my second to least favorite song on the album besides Thingy but i like every song on the album. This one gets a B.

Now on to the overall grade.
I give the Metallica album, Master of Puppets a A-.

MegafanKIMB, get your facts straight. Mustaine said he did the Spider chords on Leper Messiah, and that's it. Nothing else. If there were other songs, he would mention them, and everyone here would know since Dave's blabbering gets posted all over the place.

And so what about Ride the Lightning? Mustaine has credit on the song. Along with all the other songs he helped write.
