This is from me sitting on my ass actually watching tv with the VCR remote in my hand. None of these are downloaded its all been taped from a little over 3 years.

It's not updated, so when I say 850 it's a rough estimate. This was last updated on Dec 26th, I am now at least 25 videos ahead of that.

power metal usually consists of fantasy/medieval style lyrics and complex guitarwork and the guitars are usually constantly harmonizing with each other. the drums in power metal are usually subdued and provide the backdrop for the music moreso than thrash.

This thread is old news, but i dont feel like missing out on such a good topic. Iron Maiden is one of my favorite bands, thier the best live band of all time and they have some really killer songs. One of the first metal cds i ever owned was a burnt cd with 16 iron maiden songs and i played the hell out of that thing. I have all thier dvds and they are great musicians. I love bruce, janick(extremely under-rated), dave, adrien, steve, and nicko. Ive literally grown up listening to these guys. That being said, i like Metallica more. Im not going to say thier more talented because honestly thier not, iron maiden are better musicians. But in my opinion a band really comes down to the songs, plain and simple. You could be the best musician in the world but if you cant write a good song then no ones going to want to listen to, not for very long anyway. Iron Maiden has awesome songs, but metallicas are easier to relate to, and because of james vocals thier more passionate and real. I guess metallica has just always had a very real image to me. Thier just four guys rocking out. Iron Maiden has more of an allmighty rockstar image. I mean did you see what bruce was wearing in rock in rio, no one would wear that on the street. Having the eddy theme is cool but again its not real, neither are all the story songs where theres a character travelling or doing something. I mean look at brave new world, the wicker man, the mariner, the nomad. You know what i mean. It all just comes down to a matter of taste, iron maiden are a metal icon and will go down in history as one of the best bands of all time, so will metallica. Which ones better ultimately is decided by the opinions of each and every fan. Its all metal guys, this isnt a metallica vs korn thread. :P

lars v Nicko-Ha! Nicko. Mainly due to the fact that he is incredible live, and has a whole lot of variety and doesn't use a "Double Bass" pedal. yet he still makes it sound fast.

Kirk and James v 3 guitarists- Ha! yet again I laugh, because even though james Is Faster at guitar, the dualling in maidens songs and Live are phenomonal, and the Lead guitarists are better than kirk, and waaaay underrated.

Steve Harris v any of 'Tallicas Bassists- Better. Better. BETTER!!! He is a writing GOD and has audible, well placed licky bits.

James v Bruce- Bruce IMO. More talented, skillful, powerful. :D

i dont know if i agree with you on the iron maiden thing. i think brave new world comperes very closeley to somewhere in time sound wise. and i think dance of death is cousin to powerslave. i dont think they have changed at all really, other than now they have 3 guitars and steves bass sounds a little more subdued. otherwise they are the same crazy fucks we were introduced to 20+ years ago.

well, I already have Number of the Beast, Brave New world, the X-Factor, Edward the Great and Dance of Death
Iron Maiden for me is somewhat ambivalent,
some of their songs are really great (most off Brave new world, 1st half of Dance of death)
some really suck (like Age of Innocence or most stuff on Edward the Great)
so I don´t really know what to think about it...

edward the great blows. all greatest hits do. the x factor was a well written album, but i found that without bruce after so many albums there wasnt the same charm. i think you need all the golden albums, beast thru seventh son, and BNW and DOD wich you already own. i dont bother with the 90's albums much, because without adrian they werent great, and withou bruce it was just not maiden. so if you get the 7 albums i listed that is pretty much all you need, and the first 2 (Iron Maiden and Killers) are pretty good even without bruce. overall, i think that NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING, FEAR OF THE DARK, and VIRTUAL XI are the only albums that you shouldnt buy. the thing i have to say about maiden is that while they have ups and downs, they have constantly remained metal.

lars v Nicko-Ha! Nicko. Mainly due to the fact that he is incredible live, and has a whole lot of variety and doesn't use a "Double Bass" pedal. yet he still makes it sound fast.

Kirk and James v 3 guitarists- Ha! yet again I laugh, because even though james Is Faster at guitar, the dualling in maidens songs and Live are phenomonal, and the Lead guitarists are better than kirk, and waaaay underrated.

Steve Harris v any of 'Tallicas Bassists- Better. Better. BETTER!!! He is a writing GOD and has audible, well placed licky bits.

James v Bruce- Bruce IMO. More talented, skillful, powerful. :D

Lyrics that tell a story IMO are a good thing. I love murders in the rue morgue, and number of the beast, and fear of the dark... fuck it i love all iron maiden albums and i definately say bruce dickinson is a better vocalist than james. I think as collective metallica are a better band but individually i think that maiden are better hands down.

I'm in a band. Until now we have only played Metallica songs but now we want to move forward and write our own material. We have no name yet (any suggestoins?? ;)). We are five in the band. One drummer, one bassplayer and three guitar players.

Iron Maiden are more consistent, and during Virtual x period they kept there extended guitar solo's, which metallica took a step backwards really.

I like both of them equally. i sometimes am always listening to Metallica, then i switch to maiden. there live performances, (maidens) are supposed to better.

Load and Re-Load weren't THAT bad, just not as good. Maiden have struck back from there dry period, while Metallica are still as dry as....er... a desert? :-/
