I can't appreciate The Memory Remains: It's done pretty well nothing for me.

The songs with * = Songs without which Metallica would not even exist as we know it.

The songs without * = Other songs that I think of quickly when I think "Metallica".

I have a question about the Venezuelan one-LP release of this album. As live tracks, it lists a fourth live track, 'Last Caress' (apparently taken from The 6 1/2 Year Anniversary Live E.P.). However, the UK release of The 6 1/2 Year Anniversary Live E.P. only includes three live trakcs, 'Harvester of Sorrow', 'One', and 'Breadfan'. What is the deal with that? It is my fav. album but puppets gets close because of the missing bass

eye of the beholder and harvester of sorrow are others.

And actually if anything Kirk relied more heavily on pentatonic scales after the first four albums. nearly everything on load and reload is pentatonic, and most of the black album. since those solos are pretty slow they sound just like blues, because that's exactly what the pentatonic scale is used for. it's like the basics of lead guitar playing. if you don't know any theory or scales you can at least play a minor pentatonic scale.

I disagree with Eye of The Beholder, its actually pretty good, I like the way he sings the verses (do you take what i take etc.) it sounds like theres a vocal effect, i would rate that song 9. Also Frayed Ends of Sanity is awesome i would rate it a 9. Out of all the songs Harvester of Sorrow would have to have a weak point to the other songs that i would rate 8. But all in all the songs are awesome. And Justice For All being my favorite album!

Alright, here's an update on the Encycmet bootlegs...

What I have done here is just a test run to see how much of a response we would get for providing bootlegs. The response has been huge, thanks to you guys.

For now, the boots are going to go on hiatus for a bit. But, with that said, when they return, I'm gonna have a bunch of different ones for you guys to download, so don't lose hope.

As well, the traffic for the bootleg downloads has been huge. Because of this, I'm thinking about making some new requirements to be able to get the bootlegs. Nothing major though, probably just a "you should have this many posts" thing. If that is done, they can't be spam posts either.

But, I won't get ahead of myself here. As of now, the bootlegs are going to go on hold for now.

But, that doesn't mean you can't get them. Many members here are more than willing to share the bootlegs, not to mention there's the regular bootleg forum for everyone to use.

One of the beloved first four album, this is a good album and you should buy it.

1. Blackened - An extremely good song, probably the best and most well known song on the album. pretty heavy, thats a good thing. Reason enough to buy the album. muthafukkin A.

2. ...And Justice For All - another good song, not as good as Blackened but it's up there alright. Metallica is good at having good songs that match up with a good album (RtL, MoP, AJFA). This song is also pretty heavy and well done. This song gets an A-.

3. Eye of the Beholder - a decent song, not the best on the album and its a bit boring in the beginning. it is still a great addition to the album. messed up voice, lol. PoB <<< plain old B.

4. One - this is another extremely good addition to the album. One is one of my favorite songs on the album. just because it is less heavy, doesn't mean it isn't good. this awesome track gets a A-.

5. The Shortest Straw - i pretty much just started listening to this song. it isn't my favorite song, but it's still pretty decent. this one gets a B.

6. Harvester of Sorrow - another of of the better songs of the album. i can't find much wrong with it, it's an overall good song. I end this song review with the letter B+.

7. The Frayed Ends of Sanity - pretty good song, not my fav but i like the intro and the rest is pretty good too. the intro is kinda messed up, thats probably why i like it. This tune/track/song/etc. gets a B.

8. To Live is to Die - another pretty good instrumental. slow intro but great guitars. not much to say about it besides that its pretty good. this, another voiceless PoS gets a B.

9. Dyers Eve - this is pretty much the only song on the album. i don't know how many people will agree with me but im going to give this song my only C so far, a C+. it's not a bad song, nor is it a good song.

Overall this album is getting a B+ from me. Thank you all for wasting my time.

Came back with a bang from alcohol and the loss of cliff. an amazing song that combines the ferousious speed of KEA and the musical genius of Damage inc., MOP.
kept the dual solo's and kirk played a blinder, this song and the rest. 9 1/2

AJFA
one of the best songs recorded by metallica. Melodic guitar riffs and classical playing made for a great self titled song. the solo's were top knotch and even though the drums were a bit mechanic, it was still as tight as hell. brilliant piece of music. 10

Eye of the Beholder
Good. Solo's were again some of the best by kirk and the dualling with james were incredible. not the best song on AJFA but not bad. 8

this is a wierd one for people. i only found out recently people think that this is the worst song on AJFA and doesnt sound similiar to the rest. i disagree. i love this song. the start is brilliant live and the song is great. brilliant drums and vocals. 8 1/2

Also Amazing. breathtaking tribute to cliff that has some really epic guitar plaing and really good riffs. 9 1/2

You'd be surprised, there's more than a handful of songs WITHOUT wah solos.
Here is some stuff...this 'wah guide' is STRICTLY for solos on the STUDIO albums (not their live renditions), some songs you may think that have wah effects actually have other effects such as delay, flanger, etc. I've only done their first 5 albums (I didn't include Load and Reload because I'm not too familiar with a lot of those songs aside from the obvious like Fuel, Outlaw, Memory, etc). This may not be 100% correct but it's pretty close.

IF you count the improv. at the end of "For Whom the Bell tolls" then yes, it has wah in it.

REMEMBER, the non-wah solos probably have a different effect to them...so if you think there's wah in it, there actually isn't.

I agree with this list except I am pretty sure that there is a wah used in Leper Messiah after the sweeping. I dont listen to load/reload enough to tell you exact songs, but Kirk did go a little wah crazy in the 90's. But live, you can expect him to touch the wah at least once a song.
