i hav maiden records from piece of minds - fear of the dark.  Powerslave produce at the same year as RTL (84), piece of minds on 83, somewhere on 86 & 7th son on 88.  I saw that producing year at my CD & cassette sleeves.... but after that on 1990, maiden produced No Prayer for the Dying & 92 Fear of the Dark while metallicas produecd black album on 91.

ok. for starters, i think that me or enzio are best for maiden questions. anyways, they have 13 albums. i will list them and tell you which ones are the best and who sang.

Iron Maiden(1980)-Paul DiAnno
Killers(1981)-Paul DiAnno
The Number of the Beast(1982)-Bruce Dickinson
Piece of Mind(1983)-Bruce
Powerslave(1984)-Bruce
Somwhere in Time(1986)-Bruce
7th Son of a Seventh Son(1988)-Bruce
No Prayer for the Dying(1991)-Bruce
Fear of the Dark(1992)-Bruce
The X Factor(1995)-Blaze Bailey
Virtual XI(1998)-Blaze Bailey
Brave New World(2000-Bruce
Dance of Death(2003)-Bruce

here is the order i reccomend

Golden era: you can buy all of these in any order, but get these for sure:

# of the Beast
Piece of Mind
Powerslave
Somwhere in time (worst in the golden age)
Seventh son

21st century maiden (six memebers, 3 guitars)
this is a return to the golden era, the best albums '88

Brave new world
Dance of Death

The others: not as good as the other 7 albums, but maidens first two efforts are really great once yoyu get past dianos vocals) so her is the reccomended order:

Iron Maiden
Killers
Fear of the dark
no prayer for the dying
X factor
Virtual XI

glad you like maiden, gary, dood, dud, vodka, whatever your name is. enjoy, metal up your ass, and UP THE IRONS!

AARGH!!! Try listening to a few of their songs (Lyrics-wise) and they also have such hits like "The Evil That Men Do" which is about men doing crime and being remembered (Hitler, etc.) that aint fantasy.

Wasted Years is about Wasting your life and remembering back on the few good points in life. That aint Fantasy.

Alexander The great is about, obviously Alexander The Great. That aint fantasy.

Most of Fear of the Dark album is about Fear and running away and shit.

I could name SOOO many more if you wanted to. actually you guys are probably just judging your stupid "Dungeons and Dragons" bollox, by Number of the beast and their covers (Which are sooooo much better than Metallicas)

So don't judge a book by their cover, 'caus it's just ignorant.

PS: Metallica were inspired my Maiden.  ;) Second of All, iquite like that fantasy feel, gives an epic atmospheric sound. :)

Another thing, it's so amazing how you talk about 'tallica so passionatly, yet when we do the same with maiden, you go on about how cheesey they are. Try stating some fact.

Also, Try listening to the "music" part of it to. It would help.

I've listened to every single song up to and including the Fear of The Dark album and apart from all sounding the same they are lyrically so inferior to Metallica that there shouldn't even be a comparison.

I'll give you the covers. Their covers are good. Fortuneately i don't buy albums because of their covers as i have a mental age of more than nine years old(no valentine from Neverland for me, awww).

I think they are cheesy because they look like Spinal Tap, sound like a drill tap and annoy me like a constantly dripping tap.

They are two different bands, unworthy of comparison.

i got myself a fuckload of extra credit because i brought the lyrics of run to the hills to my history teacher. and i got an A+ 100% on a paper that i wrote for english about fear overtaking someones life. i crossed fear of the dark, the unforgiven, and still life. im thinking of turning my story into a song sometime.

Lyrics that tell a story IMO are a good thing. I love murders in the rue morgue, and number of the beast, and fear of the dark... fuck it i love all iron maiden albums and i definately say bruce dickinson is a better vocalist than james. I think as collective metallica are a better band but individually  i think that maiden are better hands down.

well, ill do a fav song from each album list.

Iron Maiden-Sanctuary (killer riff)
Killers-WRATHCHILD!!!
# of the Beast-Hallowed be thy Name
Piece of Mind-Revelations
Powerslave-Rime of the Ancient mariner
Somewhere in Time-Alexander the Great
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son-7th son
No Prayer-Dont Own
Fear of the Dark-Fear
X factor-Dont own
Virtual XI-Dont own
BNW-Blood brothers
DoD-Paschendale

I havent picked up all the 90s albums yet since that was thier down period. i actually love maiden more than metallica. they are the only band that has stuck to thier guns and made true metal for 25+ years.

What are you talking about, singing the interlude? What do you mean? I probably missed it at my show.

Have you ever heard Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden live? You know the intro where the crowd sings along with the guitar line and it gets all shivery and calm...it's like that but with the first Master of Puppets solo. If you'd like to hear an example let me know and I'll send you an mp3 of MOP where James/audience sing the solo.

This is all your opinion, so if i think Iron Maiden are good, respect it.

I've tried to tell you that fantasy lyrics are a minority in their material, but you chose not to comment, I've given my reasons why they are more talented, but yet again, you chose to ignore.

So your stupid excuse about having to be under the mental age of 9 to like them, i think i'll choose to ignore. ;)

well, I already have Number of the Beast, Brave New world, the X-Factor, Edward the Great and Dance of Death
Iron Maiden for me is somewhat ambivalent,
some of their songs are really great (most off Brave new world, 1st half of Dance of death)
some really suck (like Age of Innocence or most stuff on Edward the Great)
so I don´t really know what to think about it...

PS: the Beatles SUCK!
edward the great blows. all greatest hits do. the x factor was a well written album, but i found that without bruce after so many albums there wasnt the same charm. i think you need all the golden albums, beast thru seventh son, and BNW and DOD wich you already own. i dont bother with the 90's albums much, because without adrian they werent great, and withou bruce it was just not maiden. so if you get the 7 albums i listed that is pretty much all you need, and the first 2 (Iron Maiden and Killers) are pretty good even without bruce. overall, i think that NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING, FEAR OF THE DARK, and VIRTUAL XI are the only albums that you shouldnt buy. the thing i have to say about maiden is that while they have ups and downs, they have constantly remained metal.

Why should it be laughed at?

WHAT?

What the fucks a mandrake? Why should i care?

I think, in an argument about talent, shouldn't a lyric be a reasonable comeback? I'm not just saying "Maiden Suck".They aren't even that good, but i will try to show you why.

Metallica write about life, love, pain, joy, sorrow, suffering and put it all to brilliant music at their own personal suffering and internal conflict. Sure they are rich, but they still release brilliant music.

Maiden write about fantasy role playing, which,if it is your thing is fine. But it is a niche. They have the Dungeons and Dragons market well cornered and good luck to them. just don't ever mention them in the same(motor)breath as the best there is....thanks :)

AARGH!!! Try listening to a few of their songs (Lyrics-wise) and they also have such hits like "The Evil That Men Do" which is about men doing crime and being remembered (Hitler, etc.) that aint fantasy.

Posted by Metal-Assmonkey on 12/24/04 @ 07:30 PM    Post subject: Re: How impotant are metallica to you?

i mean that iron maiden is like metallica was back in the old days. they will spend hours with thier fans, stuff like that. metallica has always expierimented with thier music and let some fans down. and while they are doing what they want to do, iron maiden wont change thier style because they realise that without the fans you wouldnt have gone anywhere. they will not change thier style even if they could sell more records or get new fans because they dont want new fans, they are happy with the fans they have.

and the marketing tecniques were used by metallica. my friend of misery was supposed to be an 8 min instrumental but bob said an instrumental wouldn sell as good so they decided to shorten it and add lyrics. the cover of load was hated by both jason and james and jason wanted to get rid of it, but james said it would "attract an alteritave crowd" and left it on there. on st. anger kirk wanted to make solo's for it, but lars said "we shouldnt have solo's because this is a team effort" and kirk basicly said that lars just wanted to follow some bullshit trend in music nowadays.

iron maiden could have changed there style back with fear of the dark after metallica had so much sucess with the black album(like megadeth with "coundown to extinction") but iron maiden didnt change thier style though thier fellow metal bands were and in turn becoming more profitable. and look where it has got them, they are now without a doubt turning out the best metal albums out of all the metal bands. BNW and DoD killed st. anger in every way. thats what i mean by most loyal.

cool. you need to get number of the beast and piece of mind. dont bother with no prayer for the dying, Xfactor, and Virtual XI, they arent great. anyways, whats your fav song. mines probobly paschendale, blood brothers, or rime of the ancient mariner. oh, and i got:

Iron Maiden
Killers
The Number of the Beast
Piece of Mind
Powerslave
Somewhere in Time
7th Son of a 7th Son
Fear of the Dark
Brave new world
Dance of Death
Rock in Rio (DVD)

all awesome, except fear of the dark which is pretty mediocre. and i dont buy greatest hits so i wouldnt know about edward the great.

i mean that iron maiden is like metallica was back in the old days. they will spend hours with thier fans, stuff like that. metallica has always expierimented with thier music and let some fans down. and while they are doing what they want to do, iron maiden wont change thier style because they realise that without the fans you wouldnt have gone anywhere. they will not change thier style even if they could sell more records or get new fans because they dont want new fans, they are happy with the fans they have.

and the marketing tecniques were used by metallica. my friend of misery was supposed to be an 8 min instrumental but bob said an instrumental wouldn sell as good so they decided to shorten it and add lyrics. the cover of load was hated by both jason and james and jason wanted to get rid of it, but james said it would "attract an alteritave crowd" and left it on there. on st. anger kirk wanted to make solo's for it, but lars said "we shouldnt have solo's because this is a team effort" and kirk basicly said that lars just wanted to follow some bullshit trend in music nowadays.

iron maiden could have changed there style back with fear of the dark after metallica had so much sucess with the black album(like megadeth with "coundown to extinction") but iron maiden didnt change thier style though thier fellow metal bands were and in turn becoming more profitable. and look where it has got them, they are now without a doubt turning out the best metal albums out of all the metal bands. BNW and DoD killed st. anger in every way. thats what i mean by most loyal.

It is so obvious that you got into metal a year ago. thats not wrong, but what wrong is to me is to judge some certain bands and people so quickly without having a real experience of their music.. loyalty. that is something made up by some early rock bands to stick together with their fans and supporters wich has nothing to do with music at all..it was an attitude to make a difference and to distinguish from other kinds of music which was reasonable at that time and which is also now, even.. as for maiden, not changing their music in order to keep their fans is bullshit.. everyband has to change just like everything..becoming a holding(maiden holdings)is not something you can do with a handful of 'loyal' fans. once you get into music theres no loyalty, there are no boundaries and such... theres just making music, making the things you wanna do as much as you can, making profit in order to progress and go on... anything in this circle is fair to do.

but pls, do not believe in everything what you hear and what they say. these people are proffessional musicians...they know what to do and not to do..maiden, metallica or whatever. once again, if we speaking of loyalty, metallica have never ever promised anything about their music since day one... they always said, this is what we play.. u either love it or leave it. there has been many fans who left metallica after ride the lightning just because its intro was clean/acoustic and there were so many softenings in therir music compared to kill em all...so, u see, loyalty turned out to be blind, to be not accepting change which was not sopposed to be at all.

long live metallica and miden.
and fuck the loyalty stuff, u be loyal to your bands by buying legal stuff... nothing else matters.

plus : the instrumental song as far as I know was the outlaw thorn..it was meant to be a 30 minute instrumental or sumthing..but never happened I think.
