Oh man...I love that too...ten thousand fans pointing the horns skyward chanting/yelling DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! with Metallica. It's a beauftiful thing.  ;)

My Top Five traditions:

1) Take a look to the sky Just before you die, it's the last time you WILL! (Will echoes and the lights go out...the feeling cannot be beaten...I have yet to see it live though because they didn't play it in Ottawa. Check out FWTBT at WDSTK 99' and you'll get my point.

2) Singing the Solo in Master of Puppets (First time I saw it in a live clip I was like "WTF?!" Then gradually I got used to all the singing in the background and then got to do it live in Ottawa lol)

3) DIE! DIE! DIE!

4) ARE YOU ALIVE? OH YEAH? OH YEAH? OOOH YEAAAAH? THEN SHOW ME!!!!!!!

5) Base/guitar solos a noble traditiong that should NEVER, EVER BE SCRAPPED.

the riff is awesome as said and that fact that at every show the entire crowd get to chant
"DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE!!!!!!!!", means everyone can get involved and makes the song that much more energised when its live!!! Fucking great solo too

Posted by TheCreepingDeath on 12/12/04 @ 12:40 PM    Post subject: Re: My Ride The Lightning ratings

Fight Fire With Fire - 9.5
(thrash at its finest, one of my favorite riffs ever)

Ride The Lightning - 9
(love it but at some times vocals get annoying)

For Whom The Bell Tolls - 9.5
(one of my favs, i love lars drumming actually and bass is killer!)

Fade To Black - 10
(no explanation needed, just fucking incredible everything)

Trapped Under Ice - 9
(great opening solo, no complaints really)

Escape - 8.5
(underrated as hell, love the sirens, love the chorus)

Creeping Death - 9
(kick ass solo, DIE DIE DIE DIE.. classic)

The Call of Ktulu - 9.5
(amazing instrumental, S&M is even better)

RTL is a top top metal album and I'd give it around a 9.5 for its overall effect.

best member is definitely kirk. James is cool, but a bit too selfish/controlling, which is what drove jason out. Lars sued napster, look at my name, need i say any more?. (PS: i dont hate lars, i just like him least of all) Kirk is cool, and has a really great, chilled out life, he looks like he's found real happiness. hes also one of the greatest guitarists of our time. I dont know much about Rob, but he sounds really chilled out and a great bassist, and a surfing-buddy of Kirk's, so he must be alright.

best album: have to be master of puppetz, it has orion on it, what else can i say? (blowgorilla, you're not alone,i like St. Anger too, but it was their ONLY album for years)

best song: creeping death live, orion or damage inc. (ive just been watching the moscow '91 video: DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE!

Okay - fucking fine! Here is my Brisbane review. I can't find it, so I'll post it as best as I can remember what happened.

Okay, formalities of flying up there aside, I was a 16 year old with one hell of a love for Metallica, and having last seen them in Chicago of all places in 2000 (visiting relatives), I was incredibly hyped up! We flew into Brisbane at around 2 in the afternoon, and just bummed about the place before finding a place to stay the night at to leave our stuff at. At around 4pm, we made our way to an already massive line forming outside the Entertainment Centre, which was freakin awsome! My mate's dad got a "DIE DIE DIE DIE!" Chant going, and I was one of the few that added in the "MOTHERFUCKER!" Bit... It made me feel special. Anyway, I think the doors opened at around about 7pm... This was over 2 and a bit years ago, and I have long since lost my ticket stubs in various room cleanouts, I don't even remember the opening band... I was there to see Metallica, fuck the rest!

Anyway, opening band aside, then it was time to bring out the bigs guns! We were in general - but dads being there, not in the thick of things. I had two more shows to see that week - plently of time for getting in the thick of things. Anyway, it would have been around 8:30 - 9pm, the light's dimmed and that haunting Ecstacy of Gold came one over the speakers, and 10,000 devil horns went up into the air, people were going nuts, and I just had my breath held as to what the opener would be... Blackened? Battery? Fire? Shit! What? But then there was a short pause after Ecstacy had faded, and those fucking guitars went up, all decency just went out the door. James jumped out for the opening killer riff of Fight Fire With Fire, and anyone that says that it's not that good live has no idea - it was beyond insane, Lars went nuts in the climax, and the dual solo was insane. Well they didn't even slow down before launching right into another suprise: The Four Horsemen, which again went off. At this point I was begging to charge into the mosh, and then Jaymz announced Ride The Lightning, and about 300 people had the same idea and belted into the mosh, which for the height of the song turned into a seething mass of crazy's! But then the lights dimmed, and the spotlights came on, which could mean several songs, but me being a setlist guru knew full well. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) came on, and got - I swear - the biggest cheer of the night. I was in tears half the way through, then just went crazy when the "BRISBANE! LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE!" blasted out of Papa Het's vocal chords. That was crazy...

The band chilled out for a minute or two before the next song was tuned in, and the once described "heaviest number known to mankind" was blasted out, and hearing Lars hat that loose, and Jame's voice that freay, it really did meet that. The Thing That Should Not Be, just went off. Then we had our little "test", to see if we were worthy. And we just knew, why toy with us? Frantic just tore the place to bits, people just went insane! Jaymz killed the suspense by yelling out "I'm your dream", and we knew that it was coming, and Sad But True really knocked the wind out of me. Probably the second heaviest mosh of the night. Then we had a little crowd pleaser, and one hell of a suprise, with Dirty Window being played. Kirk added in a gun of a solo, and that was met very warmly. Just as things seemed to be getting as good as possible, we were told "Now for some justice..." And it had to be... And yes, it was Harvester of Sorrow, man that scared me... The classics were out in force. By this time I had weaved my way into the thick of it. And for the next song... Not good. The first explosion nearly deafened me... Then there was another minute of them... One was coming, and I was ready, and when Kirk nailed that solo into the ground, just nailed it, I gave him the horns, and the fucker gave them back! But then, then was the shocker. The echo - that's what got me. I was cheering the loudest when that mean fucker Damage Inc. was churned out so much faster than God meant it to be. It was just crazy - my favorite song! Holy shit!

The band said their bye's, but fuck them, they had another hour left! And sure enough they leapt back out for the crowd pleaser of the night, Seek and Destroy. Then again those damn lights went down, which meant Fade or Nothing. Well, we got Nothing Else Matters, and the responce was huge! I hugged everyone around me, and they returned them with just as many tears in their eyes. But then it came Creeping Death!!!, and I lost my voice on the "DIE DIE DIE!" part. Which sucked, because even though they said they were done, we all knew they were fuckin' liers!

James wandered out and teased with us before, laughing: "hahahaha RIFF!" and blasting out that mean motherfucker ST ANGER! And Lars went crazy! But then those green lights came on, not lasers, just lights, and we got a MAAAAAAAAAASSIVE version of Enter Sandman. Not huge in that it was longer, it was just in-fucking-sane. Nothing on DVD compared to this! Then it was scary, because with the classics done, what else was left? The goodbyes were sad, and we thought they were gone!

But then the lights dimmed once more! And then it was a gamble, now they could play anything! What would it be?

"Brisbane... I have something to say..."

MY GOD! FUCK YEAH! LAST CARESS!!! and that went crazy! The crowd was so pumped, because we knew that after this there was only going to be one more! I heard all sorts of shouts for last songs! DYERS EVE! DISPOSABLE HERO'S! All sorts of shit. But Jaymz was firm, and with feedback still ringing, he said what we didn't want to hear, but then what we did:

"Brisbane, thank you for having us! KILL 'EM ALL!" Then about a 3 second delay for HIT THE LIGHTS!, Lars sat on the double bass the whole time (think Cunning Stunts), and it went off! What a finish! It was just crazy, the setlist was choc-full of the best of the best. And after watching a year and a half of setlists - this one was still the best! Despite no Puppetz, it was still an awsome show!
