| I DO think Dave Mustaine is a moron. Let's say, hypothetically, he did write all the stuff he claims to have (which I have issues with anyway). So what? While Kill 'em All was an awesome album, let's not pretend it's Metallica's best.
Mustaine is a fucking idiot for releasing Mechanix YEARS after the Four Horsemen. Mechanix is a terrible song, while the Horsemen is a classic.
It's my opinion that Mustaine is just terribly bitter about being kicked out of Metallica. He has noone to blame but himself, though - he had drug problems at the time, and Metallica wasn't into that (yet =/), so they gave him the boot.
Let's face it - Megadeth isn't as good as Metallica. There, I said it. Most people would agree - Megadeth's sound just isn't as refined, the songs aren't as well penned, and Dave Mustaine's voice is no great shakes - it can go from a whine to a REALLY fake snarl in seconds.
I haven't seen the Some Kind of Monster interview with him, but I bet it'll just be him whining about how Megadeth never achieved the success of Metallica and then give excuses about it.
He needs to grow up. |

First off the entire truth about Mustaine getting kicked out of Metallica has never been released to the public. If you read more, you'd know that. Second without the Mechanix there would be no horsemen. The reason why it took him a year after Metallica to release the song (Killing is My Business was released in '84) was because he had to get signed first. You can't just go out and record a song and put it on a record and then have it be sold in stores. Besides what the hell does when the song was released on an ablum have to do with anything? He still wrote the fucking thing. Metallica did a great job re-writing the lyrics and adding the bridge, but it didn't really change any after that. In my opinon, YOUR OPINIONS FUCKING SUCK!!! |

By the way it's dark flare not flame. Another thing if Metallica are so bad and Megadeth are so good how come Dave Mustaine says that getting kicked out of Metallica has been the biggest regret of his life for the last 20 years? |

| | I'm saying this once, then I'm never going to post here again. Dave Mustaine did not copy Metallica. They both used the same way of playing and they used the same band layout. Everybody knows that Mustaine started out in Metallica. He helped create it and he liked the layout. He created the style which both bands use, but Kirk Hammett got the recognition for it. I'm not saying that Mustaine sucks, or Megadeth sucks or that Metallica sucks. I'm just saying that They are two different bands that use the same style of playing. If the shoe had been on a different foot, and Hetfeild had left, you guys would be saying the same exact thing about him. |

| Metallica, but Hallowed be thy Name and The Wicker Man are just fucking amazing songs to belt out whether or not you can sing just belt out the lyrics to hallowed be thy name.. It's fucking cool.
Bruce's vocals aren't like squeelish like Dave Mustaine's.. But He has a likable thrash metalish voice. And Dave has improved too.
Guitaring: Lead giutar: Kirk Hammett hands down Rhythm: As forementioned Maiden does some crazy harmonizing and it is a beautiful sound *like on To Live is to Die, the guitar is beautiful there too!*
Drums: Maiden for sure. Sorry Lars, it WAS close but Maiden is just better here.
Bass: It's hard to judge Rob, maybe he'll pull some crazy lines out of his ass. Or maybe he won't. Cliff was AMAZING!! Jason was great too, I sort of liked his back up vocals on certain tracks.
However Maiden here too, because with the everchanging Metallica, I can't rate the new bassist Rob very well. Gotta see him live soon! |

| | I was listening to some old interviews today and found out some new (to me anyways) things about the early days. The house that James and Ron used to live in when they first were getting Metallica started was demolished to make room for the Century Freeway. Now in the garage of that house, they recorded their first 4 song demo on a 4 track player that Lars barrowed from someone else. Ron's last gig was on 11/29/82. This next one is according to Ron from an interivew he did on KNAC. Ron was with James and Lars the first time they saw Cliff play. There are 3 different versions of how Ron got kicked out of/quit Metallica. One version is that his girlfriend overheard the rest of the band talking about replacing Ron with Cliff so he quit before they had a chance. Another version from Ron is that they treated him like shit and he got fed up especially when Dave Mustaine poured beer onto his bass and got it in the pickups. From there Ron told James and the band to get out and they left. The other version is that James Lars and Dave kicked Ron out of the band because Ron just wasn't really into it. Something everyone here probably knows is that Ron played on the No Life 'Til Leather demo tape. Ron was also a rodie for James' first band obsession. James taught Ron how to play bass and according to Ron, James also taught lars how to play drums at first. He said they speant the summer of '81 working with Lars to get him good enough to play. |

| Let me guess, Kirk isn't "too good at soloing" because Mustaine wrote all the stuff he plays.
For someone who seems to have read up on a lot of stuff about the bands, I'd expect less outrageous comments from you. (ex: Mustaine writing The Four Horsemen lyrics)
stealing songs from others (not only from dave mustaine, but kirk also stole most of the concepts for creeping deth from his prevoius band, exodus i believe, and exodus didnt use any of the material that kirk helped write until metallica pulled that stunt. and also thier napster stunt. how did they get known again? underground music trading. what was napster? underground music trading. any more brain busters?
How can Kirk steal something HE WROTE? That's not stealing.
So what if they made it big by underground music trading? They didn't have any records when they were big in the underground scene, how else do you think they would've become popular. (FYI, the No Life 'til Leather demo tape was what made them big in the underground scene). When you realise actual records, people are supposed to buy them, not just walk into the store and take them. (Which is what downloading music is pretty much)
And about that whole thing... they dropped the suit, in case you didn't know. And Lars has recently mentioned in interviews he doesn't mind downloading music anymore, he even went on to talk about how he has his own MP3 player with downloaded music.
lars is as much of a dick as anyman could every hope to be. and he also sucks at drums. im kinda wondering why he didnt want a certian scene to be used in the "somekind of monster movie"...
Are you an idiot? What scene??
It was Dave that didn't want a "certain" scene to be in the movie, not Lars.
Do some more reading, kid. That is, if your parents let you. |

|
First, The reason Dave is getting hated on so much is because of his attitude. He is an asshole, its that simple. He has been holding a grudge for 20 years even though it was his own fault he was thrown out and he also had one of the most sucessful metal bands ever and is not satisfied. Dave started megadeth to get back at james and lars for throwing him out and he has admitted to this. No way did he create the sound of metallica. That was more james than anyone cause megadeth sounds so much different. When he was in metallica, he pretty much only did solo's just like kirk did until later on. Thats how lead guitarists worked back in the 80's. Kirk didnt write any solo's on kill em all, but did give them some flavor cause all dave did was play fast boring scales with hardly any dynamics at all. Thats what kirk did for metallica, played metal solo's differently than every other band at the time. As for the songs sounding the same, the only ones I know are mechanix/four horseman which metallica did steal, but it wasnt copywrited or anything so its legal. They also did come out with the song first, so they win. He did write alot of the solo's on kill em all, but ive heard him play 3 songs from kill em all and kirk destroys him. He fits them so much better. Call of kutulu/hanger 18 is another that is very similar, but for whom the bell tolls/darkest hour sound nothing alike. I really like both and can play all the rhythyms perfectly. They are nothing alike. There are a few others I saw on a site, but those 2 are the only 2 I agree with. Dave can get alittle credit for the sound of kill em all and a little for RTL. But I dont think metallica really got into their sound til Master and he has no part of that. Megadeths first few albums sound alot like kill em all. Metallica was far ahead of them with their sound. Dave also didnt do anything classically for any band. That was all cliff for metallica. Their wasnt really any classical stuff for megadeth til marty friedman came. So he gets no credit for that either. Metallica changed for the better when dave left and for the worse when cliff died. That simple. I like megadeth, but I dont like Dave. He is a good musician, ok lead guitarist (at best), but he's just so pissed off all the time even though he is one of the biggest metal legends. If dave would have stayed, there would have been no megadeth and I dont think metallica would have been as good. And Exodus would have been better too!!
Let's be honest here, Dave Mustaine or Kirk Hammett aren't going to be releasing solo albums any time soon. They simply aren't that talented. The difference between Mustaine and Hammett was that Mustaine could recruit great guitar players and drummers into his band at will. Chris Poland. Marty Friedman. Both of these guitarists are in a totally different league than Mustaine or Hammett. That's why Mustaine went from the LEAD guitarist of Metallica to the RHYTHM guitarist of Megadeth. As for who was better between Hammett and Mustaine, remember that by the time Mustaine had ONE album out he already had his own line of guitars that METALLICA used for the recording of Master of Puppets. |

| I was on the Megadeth forum and could not believe how hard the death of Dimebag had affected Dave. Dave does posts on the forum himself and what he said was mind blowing!! Being of fan of both Megadeth and Metallica for almost twenty yrs I was glad to hear it!!! This is the post along with the link for those who may think it is a hoax!! Dave Mustaine:
"Droogies!
Tonight I had the honor and priveledge to host a special tribute to the life of Darrel “Dimebag” Abbott.
I went out to NYC Thursday at 9:30 PM on a redeye to do this, and during the period since then, I have had a good amount of time to reflect on my own life.
I realized how fortunate I am, and have been to have met some of you, and in some cases become friends with many of you.
What is bothering me is the people who I have not been able to meet, or worse, have met and ended up not being friends with. There are many.
I would like to, in honor of Darrel's life, learn from him and how many friends he apparently had made.
Over my career I have a lot of cleaning up to do on my side of the street as well as letting things go, for once and for all; I need to apologize to many people and also to forgive and quit holding grudges.
Having said that, if there is something I did to you or someone you know, please give me the opportunity to make this right.
To Slayer and Metallica: I am sorry for whatever I may have done in the past and wish to make it right, to put it behind us. Please let me know how and when we can talk this out.
To previous bandmembers and managers: I say the same to you.
To all the Megadeth/Metallica fans: from this day forward, there will never be another unkind word from my mouth perpetuating this silly 22 year old feud.
And to heavy metal fans around the world: I am going to emulate Dimebag by being more like him; more friendly, and more interested in your lives too, I promise.
I am grateful to have been asked to come in this hour of darkness to represent us all as we come together and heal as a worldwide music community, and I would be a fraud if I didn't say I need to do more to better “represent.”
Thank you in advance for your forgiveness and for your support,
Dave Mustaine" __________________ MSGD!

Burton, singer-guitarist James Hetfield and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett (and his predecessor, Dave Mustaine) would record them, and bandleaders Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich would then sift through them to construct songs. This really great! |

Plus my favourite album is Master of Puppets and the FACT is most of that album was of Cliff composition. James couldnt have wrote the song for Master of Puppets as the whole song relies on Cliffs bass playing. My second bassist is Steve Harris and even Dave Mustaine himself said he was the enw ''Steve Harris of Metal'' and thats coming from one of the greatest guitar players of all time. It didnt matter if Cliff just played Bass too the songs in Kill em All, it was Cliff who played the Bass, who played the bass solos, who made them reach the sky. Its just like you saying, Kirk Hammet didnt have a major part in Kill em All cos' Dave Mustaine had already wrote all of the shit, the point is Kirk played them too his style and he fucking nailed them. Cliff is the greatest in my oppinion and he will never be ebaten. I respect your oppinion, i just dont agree with it :D |

GOD AMONG INSECTS - “Dimebag Darrell 1966 - 2004. Rest in peace. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Dimebag Darrell. Rest in peace, man.
Wherever you are.”
IN FLAMES - “Our deepest thoughts and sympathies goes out to friends and families of the victims in the terrible tragedy in Ohio. // In Flames"
BARRY SPARKS - “We had a great show last night in Spokane, but unfortunately the happy mood of the night changed just as we were getting ready to leave. We heard the tragic news about "Dimebag" Darrell and the other victims of the shooting in Columbus Ohio. I still find it hard to believe someone could be this deranged and evil or just plain stupid?? Our thoughts and prayers go out to the band, friends and family members. God bless you Dimebag Darrell. Barry.”
MOTORHEAD - “The music world was saddened today by last evenings events in Columbus, OH. All of us at imotorhead.com wish to convey our deepest sympathies to the families of those that died. Lemmy, Mikkey & Phil also asked us to post these thoughts:
“To Vinnie & All Concerned:
Man, I am so fuckin sorry. You know I loved Dimebag and I'm about as sorry as you can get. Glad you're OK though. If there's anything you need help with, you got my number somewhere, OK. Thinking of you. Regards, condolences - Lemmy.”
“I'm so sorry, we'll dedicate the set to Dimebag tonight. - Phil Campbell.”
“My deepest sympathy to everyone affected by this tragedy. Mikkey Dee.”
SUPERJOINT RITUAL A message regarding Dimebag Darrell's death from one of the camps DAMAGEPLAN and PANTERA fans have been waiting to hear from. SUPERJOINT RITUAL's Hank Williams III has posted the following statement at the band's official website:
"It just ain't fuckin' right. Alcohol should have killed Dime, not a fuckin piece of shit worthless fuck with a gun trying to recreate the John Lennon's killing. This happened on the same day, if you didnt know. Dime will never die EVER!!! His style of guitar playing took metal to a whole new chapter in metal history.
For those of us that were lucky enough to be around Dime as a person, or see him jam in no matter what band it was, you know he liked to have a good time. In his honor, crank up his fuckin music and get motherfuckin wasted on whiskey!!!!!!!
And no matter what was said with all the shit talking between Superjoint Ritual and Damageplan, that's all it was, nothing but talk!! If we had ever been in the same room together as both bands, it would have been cool. Kinda like seeing 'ole family.... I'm sure there will be plenty of new rumors surfacing and fingers pointing at people to blame, but Philip (Anselmo) and the rest of Superjoint Ritual are in a state of shock and blown away by this tragedy! We do not take this shit lightly... What this kid did is so fucked up its not even conceivable. May you burn in the hottest corners of hell, you pistol-packin' pussyfuck...
R.I.P Dimebag. You rocked harder than you will ever know!!!!"
OZZY OSBOURNE - "It's Just Terribly, Terribly Sad ... Dimebag was a dear friend of mine," Ozzy Osbourne said. "I'm absolutely beside myself with grief. I can't for the life of me understand why someone would do this. Pantera toured with me many, many times. I'll always remember the signed guitar that he gave me at my 50th birthday party. My heart goes out to Dime's family, his fans and the other innocent victims who were killed in this senseless tragedy. It's just terribly, terribly sad."
BYZANTINE - “I had a friend call me last night from Ohio to tell me that one of our idols had been shot to death. Dimebag Darrell, who most likely all of us looked up to and wanted to drink with, was dead. He and 4 others had been shot and killed while Damageplan were playing a concert in very nearby Columbus, OH. This guy walked straight on stage, yelled at Dime, and then shot him point blank in the head. All the while his fans had to watch in horror. Let's all take today to put on some Pantera or Damageplan and remember the coolest, most down to earth, closest thing to a REAL rockstar that you could ever find. Long live Darrell Abbott.
We love you brother. If Stevie Ray Vaughan would have picked up a KISS album instead of blues, you would get Dimebag Darrell.”
MACHINE HEAD - “Machine Head are devastated by the horrific news. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to the Abbott family, Damageplan and former members of Pantera. Our thoughts are with you all.”
KEVIN SHIRLEY (Producer) - “JESUS CHRIST! I just saw Dimebag Darrel was shot and killed at a gig in Ohio last night - that is terrible news. I am saddened and shocked. My deepest sympathy and condolences to all his family - I just mixed a Damageplan track for the Punisher soundtrack earlier this year. Oh, that breaks my heart! SHIT! Enough of the fucking guns already! This is bad.”
ANTHRAX’ Scott Ian - "I am devastated as I'm sure we all are. All I can convey at this moment are my condolences to Rita and Vinnie and the whole family. My heart is with you. Love, Scott"
ZAKK WYLDE - "We lost Dime tonight. We have no official details, and I personally am not saying anything. I want to thank Shawn Sexton (Sierra Nevada) from sdmfworldwide.com for calling Chad Lee and I in Chicago and bringing it to our attention, first and foremost. Right now, I myself, and the entire Doome Crew Inc., those I've spoken to, can't even begin to try to fuckin' assemble words in sentences to tell you guys how we feel. Give us a few days to circle the wagons. Whatever comes across officially from the family will be conveyed, as always, humbly by us."
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE’s Howard Jones - "This is insane and this is beyond travesty. This is beyond anything I've ever heard. This shouldn't happen in or outside of the rock and metal community. He will be missed and mourned as a person, as a musician, and as a friend."
MEGADETH’s Dave Mustaine - “There is nothing unique or clever to this post, and what I want to say has no doubt already been said throughout the metal community, by countless others whom were more closer to Darrell than me by now. However, knowing he was murdered tonight, I wish to thank and remember Darrell for his amazing life and the gift that he shared with me and so many other fortunates. I pray for Darrell's family and friends; specifically for their healing, their peace, and their understanding of this tragedy in this time of need. I send my deepest heartfelt condolences to the Abbott family, to Darrell's friends, and to the fantastic PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN fans around the world. We must never forget his life, and his gifts, his genius, his terrific personality, and the legacy he left behind to remember him by. Darrell, I will see you in heaven and I, like so many more, love you brother. You will be missed.”
SATYRICON - "The show tomorrow in Colmbus, Ohio is naturally cancelled as the venue is now a crime scene. No other shows will be affected. Do not let this tragedy stop you from going to metal shows and don`t let anyone tell you that this has ANYTHING to do with metal music."
TYPE O NEGATIVE Here's to you, Darrell The staff at ton.net are shocked and speechless at the senseless loss of Darrell and the rest of the victims from Tuesday Night...we would like to express our deepest regards and sympathy to their family and friends in this confusing and troubled time.
Johnny asked to have this posted:
I'm not really sure what to say or how to put it in words to describe what I'm feeling at the moment. The world has lost a genuine person, one of the true greats. We've lost a great friend, some have lost an idol, but more tragic than any of that, a father lost his son & Vinnie lost his brother. Since Type O Negative first toured with Pantera in 1995, both bands have remained close friends. No matter how much time would pass, whenever we would get together it always seemed like we had just seen each other the night before. Touring with them was an amazing experience that I still talk about ten years later. I have so many memories of Darrell and all of it included laughter. Hanging out with Darrell, Rita, Vinnie, Pantera and Damageplan was always an adventure. You never knew what was going to happen but it usually wound up with your stomach hurting from laughing so much and a really nasty hangover in the morning. I know that Darrell was an amazing guitar player and many know him just for that. I would have to take a step back every once in a while to see him for that because that wasn't how I knew him. I knew him to be a very enthusiastic, generous, animated and one of the funniest guys that just happened to be one of the greatest guitarists of our time. He had a way with people that after you met him, you became a part of his family. We always considered him family and we're devastated. Heaven definitely has its hands full now that Darrell's shown up. Even though I have written this about Dime, I want to send our condolences to the families and friends of the others that were so senselessly taken away from us on Wednesday night.
Johnny MIKE PORTNOY (DREAM THEATER) I wasn't gonna post anything because this whole tragedy isn't about me or how I feel.. and I feel so helpless and insignificant at such an unbelievable time as this... But after sitting in front of my computer screen in disbelief for the last 24 hours since I heard about this last night I finally felt I needed to at least acknowledge how absolutely horrible I feel about this nightmare. Actually, I am sick to my stomach.
Dime was an incredible talent who I've admired since the beginning when we had both just signed to Atco Records. It's been many years since I've hung with him or any of the Pantera guys - but my memories with him and the guys were always of great fun and filled with crazy drunken insanity. He lived each and everyday to the fullest. In fact, I never could believe how he could even function (both on and off stage) with the way he partied and lived life.
I feel so sorry for Vinnie and the rest of the band and family.
Words really cannot describe the heartache I've had all day. This is as tragic and unbelievable as Lennon getting killed. But this hits home even closer because he was ONE OF US.
I really cannot believe it...

| Yeah I hate guitar world now. Read Guitar One that magazine kicks the shit out of guitarworld! BUY THE MEGADETH ISSUE FOR DAVE MUSTAINE'S FIRST LESSON!
And a six or so page interview. And the tabs to Die Dead Enough.
If that doesn't satisfy you search for the "101 greatest guitar riffs of all time" they've got 101 excellent riffs, I agree with a lot of the riffs they have on there. For a bonus it has JP testing out some strings and showing off :P, and it has like 7 riffs from Ozzfest.
YEAH GREAT MAG YEAH!! |

| View entire thread: Tallica in Sabb Family Tree |
| Posted by mooseheadtrail on 12/08/04 @ 12:00 PM Post subject: Tallica in Sabb Family Tree | |
| Every fan knows that because of Robert Trujillo (and, of course, Jason Newsted), Metallica is now firmly a branch in the Black Sabbath family tree. But if you think it ends there, well, as Rob Halford would say, you've got another thing coming.
Because of what can only be described as 'intensive interbreeding' between Black Sabbath and Deep Purple throughout the late 70's and early 80's, Metallica is linked, through Robert and Jason (and Dave Mustaine, too) to numerous other bands, including (but surely not limited to):
Judas Priest Led Zeppelin Iron Maiden Frank Zappa Whitesnake Alice Cooper Kiss Van Halen AC/DC and of course Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Every band a major influence (though David Coverdale was more influential when in Purple than Whitesnake although, if you've got the Donnington 95 bootleg ;D).
So you're probably wondering how I came by all that. Well, I blame it on Quebec City. I was listening to that awesome livemetallica.com download (for I was at both shows!!) and I just thought about Robert, and bands he'd been in. From there, it hit me like a two-ton heavy thing (yeah, there's a link to Queensryche, too, and even Alice In Chains; you figure it out). This guy's family tree is more extensive than I could have imagined, and I was shocked at how great it was.
It starts with either Sabbath or Purple. We'll go with the heavier one first, so Sabbath it is. Everything was fine in Sabbath until Ozzy left, that's when it all begins. As you may know, Ronnie James Dio filled in as Ozzy's very capable replacement for two albums (three, if you‘re counting Live Evil). Dio was the former singer of Rainbow, a band formed by Ritchie Blackmore. Blackmore was the old guitarist of Deep Purple, so that's where the first, but far from final, link between these two metal ledgends starts.
Ian Gillan, the singer of Deep Purple, soon left Purple (and he would rejoin them two more times, once with Steve Morse, former Kansas guitarist, in case this family tree isn't extensive enough!). After he left Purple, but before he replaced Dio in Black Sabbath for the Born Again LP (a GREATLY overlooked album, killer tunes, especially Disturbing The Priest, overlooked even by Sabbath fans, shame on them) Gillan for a time had his own solo band. The guitar player in Gillan’s band was a guy named Janick Gers.
When Gillan broke up, Janick Gers soon found himself in another band, this one fronted by former Iron Maiden singer Paul Dianno. As if that wasn't enough of a Maiden connection, years later, Janick Gers would not only play on Bruce Dickinson's Tattooed Millionaire album (classic) but also become a real member of Iron Maiden, where he remains to this day.
So . . .where was I?
Okay, back to Deep Purple for a minute. When Ian Gillan left the band, David Coverdale came in, playing on such killer tunes as Burn and Stormbringer (and Mistreated, too, you may remember that riff from the Lars/Kirk solo from Binge+Purge). Anyway, Coverdale soon left Purple and formed his own band, Whitesnake. There were (still are) many revolving members in this band, but it included a few memorable names: Rudy Sarzo (bassist previously in Ozzy and Quiet Riot, a band in which Randy Rhoads once played), and Steve Vai (who had recently played in David Lee Roth's solo band—Roth obviously of Van Halen fame-and back before that, had been in Frank Zappa's band) and years later the lesser known Reb Beach (sp?) who had been the original guitarist in Winger, the bandleader of which had been the bassist for Alice Cooper. Oh, and by the way, David Coverdale-between stints in Whitesnake-formed a short lived band with Jimmy Page, who, as you may know, was the guitar player in Led Zeppelin. Jimmy Page, years before, after the demise of said Zeppelin, formed a band called The Firn, featuring Paul Rodgers, former singer of Bad Company, and Chris Slade, future drummer for AC/DC.
Take a deep breath . . . it gets worse :o
So meanwhile, the guy that started all of this, one Ozzy Ousbourne, had all kinds of folks in his band. This included Jake E Lee, who played on what I personally view as Ozzy's best album The Ultimate Sin. After the Ultimate Sin tour, Jake left (paving the way for Zakk Wylde). Jake then formed a band called Badlands with Ray Gillan (no relation to Ian, though Ray was formerly the singer with Sabbath, though he recorded no music with them). That first self-titled Badlands album is okay (Winter's Call is by far the best track). The drummer in that band was Eric Singer, who later replaced the late Eric Carr in Kiss. Of course, Mike Inez was also in Ozzy's band, and later in Alice In Chains. Robert Trujillo later repalced him (coming from Suicidal and Infectious), and then joined Metallica. In an odd twist, Jason Newsted took Robert's place in Ozzy's band, firmly cementing Metallica's direct connection to Sabbath, Purple and many others.
Wait! I'm not done yet. There's still Megadeth. Marty Friedman was one of the guitarists in this band. He had formerly been in Racer X. The drummer of Racer X was Scott Travis, who went on to be the drummer (best they ever had) in Judas Priest on the Painkiller album (and Rob's solo band, Fight, as well).
Okay, that's it. I'm done (and I fucken knew reading all those old Hit Parader's and Rip magazines would pay off one day!) If this is all too much for you, well, do like I did - blame it on Quebec City (just kidding!) ;D ;D ;D

| At the risk of starting yet another thread bashing Dave Mustaine (which I'm not trying to do), I thought I'd post this quote from Lars I just found in an interview from over 20 years ago, in 1984 (I found it on the MetClub site, and it is part of an article in the So What! book).
“As far as I’m concerned, Metallica really changed with the arrival of Kirk and Cliff. Incidentally, I’d like to say that Metallica bears no grudges against Dave Mustaine and that we thank him and acknowledge his contribution to early Metallica."
I think part of the problem is a lack of communication, and I really wish Dave could read at least this part of the book. |

| | Enter Sandman was the first riff Metallica moulded into a song for the Black Album. That riff was written by Kirk. It was not the first riff of Kirk's used on an album. Kirk wrote riffs for the previous albums also. Great point though about Metallica's fans not acknowledging Dave Mustaine. |

| I know that this movie has not been released everywhere yet but being fortunate enough to live in NY where it was released first.. I feel obligated to review it and let everyone know my feelings about this outstanding demonstration of hardships in the greatest heavy metal band of all time's life.
As this movie begins you hear the familiar riff of "Seek and Destroy" and witness Metallica playing a show with Jason Newstead, before all events took place. Soon after it shows a news clip announcing Jason's departure from the band, he states that James was overprotective of him and didn't want him pursuing Echobrain (side project) as much as Jason wanted to. Trying not to let this news discourage them from producing a new album - they enter a recording studio where producer Bob Rock takes over bass duties.
Lars and Kirk seem very excited about this record as they constantly work to come up with great material, but James seems out of the loop, depressed, and not eager to finish the record. It almost looks like he feels forced. After an argument with Lars, James storms out of the room vanishing with the announcement soon after that he decided to go to therapy for alcoholism and other unreleased addictions.
Various clips of old shows enter the screen where James is constantly drinking - that might have been exciting back then but now he has a family and responsibilites and I'm glad he finally realized he had to get back on track with his life. As Metallica looks like it is falling apart, Jason Newstead's band Echobrain looks better than ever as Lars and Bob Rock go to their show and realize Jason wasn't really given as much creative freedom in Metallica as he now has.
With the guidance of a Dr.Phil (not the Dr.Phil) Lars, Kirk, and Bob Rock discuss their feelings about everything going on around them as difficult as it may seem. Kirk expresses that he is very uncomfortable not knowing when James will return.
Nearly a year passes before James returns a new man ; he makes a truly inspiring statement about how predictable his life was with drinking and how much more exciting it is now that he is clean and can respond to everything around him more efficiently. The making of the record is resumed and a new method is taken. Instead of everyone dealing with their own instrument and James dealing with the lyrics, every band member (and Bob Rock) contributes to every part of every song. You can't help singing along to these songs from St. Anger as they unravel and gain a new appreciation.
The search for a new bass player is a very interesting part but after seeing Rob Trujillo's full audition I feel completely confident that he was the one meant to be in Metallica- hopefully he will remain with them for a long time to come.
I could go on forever but I will let you judge the rest, when this movie comes near you SEE IT. It is inspiring, funny, and touching.
Interesting scenes also include: Ulrich's meeting with Dave Mustaine, the naming of the record, the making of the music video St. Anger in a prison.
METALLICA FOREVER.

| | Any guitar players here that can play the 4 Horsemen, how do you play the riff after the first 4 power chords? I just use alternate picking and keep my one finger fretting the A string at the 5th fret. I see a lot of guitar players playing it all downstrokes and they seem to use a pull-off. This is the way I've seen James play it, Dave Mustaine play it, Kirk too. But I can never get it to sound right. Sometimes it sounds ok with alternate picking, but I'd like to be able to play it right. Thanks for your help guys |

| | R Kelly and Usher??? Its not R Kelly and Usher you retard. Its R Kelly and Jay Z, if its not Jay Z its another rapper who has been out for along time who has achieved great success. Usher isnt even a fucking rapper, neither is R Kelly, they are singers. Plus, they werent doing it on purpose too copy Van Halen, they were doing it cos' they were comvinging two considered major influences in the rap world and the hip hop world, R Kelly and Jay Z, two huge successes and combining their different music together. So thats basically the meaning for ''The ebst of both worlds''. It doesnt take any creativity too wrap ??? It didnt take any creativity too write the fucking St ANger album, look at Tupac Shakur, he wrote songs about dilemas the World is facing, struggling, street life. How his lyrics werent creative is a mystery too me. Metallica are the greatest but id rather listen too a fucking rapper than listen too the black album, laod, reload, st anger. They arent the true metallica man, just commercialization. Stop botching aboutthis shit dudes. Every artist be it Metal or Rap, uses other peoples shit. Alot of Metlalica fans cuss Dave Mustaine for btiching about Metallica using his shit, o stop bitchign about another artist using Metallicas shit. |

oh no ive never heard the mechanix even though killing is my business is my fav album i got! ive read the liners and mustaine said that he requested everysong on that album that has his name as one of the writers to be kept off of KEM. he wrote all the lyrics for almost all of the songs his name appears on. ive read this many times from many sources. and to answer your question, a spider riff is mustaines specialty. its when a power chord is played and the count in a 1+2+3+4+, the first beat gets the full powerchord and the +2+3+4+ is palm muted while playing only the lowest note. 16th notes are similar. perfect example is ride the lightning, and notice how mustaine wrote it. A spider chord is an open power chord followed by palm mutted 8ths or 16ths of the root? That's got to be the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard in my entire life. I played shit like that my second week of playing guitar. I seriously doubt that's what a spider chord really is and I seriously doubt he was the first one to ever play one. Surely in the centuries of music before him there was someone somewhere that played an E5 followed by 8ths or 16ths of E on the sixth string. Did Dave Mustaine also invent wannabe buttfucking fanatics like yourself?

| A)megafan just shut the fuck up. your making yourself look like a jackass. Dave helped with alot of lyrics. OK. Dave helped with alot of songs. OK. what else do you want.
B)if you didn't realize it before this site is for metallica fans. so if your going to talk shit about them go to a megadeth forum.
C)I like megadeth beside from a fact that Dave Mustaine is a dick. not everybody here is against megadeth, they're just fucking sick of you.
D)who's for pie? |

| | Holy shit!!! You read my mind today. I swear I was thinking earlier today that when I got home from work I was going to ask this same question!!!!!!! That's kinda weird, but cool. I'm wondering what a spider chord is too and how Dave Mustaine supposedly invented it. |

| | I think there's a lot of things about Metallica that are shrouded in mystery including Dave Mustaine getting kicked out of the band. Metallica is a very private band. I only wish I could have been in it from the beginning to know about everything that went on. |

| | New wave of British heavy Metal was an era roughly bout 79-83 and Lars basically would hunt down anything to do with NWOBHM. Examples of NWOBHM bands are Diamond head, Mercyful fate Def leppard and Iron maiden are even classed in NWOBHM. Oh and I'd say Dave Mustaine was influced by Tallica as he still wishes he was in the band! lol |

| Dave Mustaine... yeah.. I know, hes in the other band but u cant deny his writing ability on "Kill 'em All". Plus have u seen em live "back in the day"? He was awesome.. him and Cliff practically stole the show from James.. cause back then Jaymz just stood there and sing the songs, but it was Dave who would get the crowd goin.
Cheerz!!!
PS... the st. anger solos are comin... 4 DAYS
OFFTOPIC: what did you mean by st. anger solo's are coming? Favorite member: Kirk Favorite album :...And Justice for All Favorite song: Dyers Eve
