| | well, i love maiden and i understand how thier riffs can seem repetitive but even on dance of death they have amazing songs, like No More Lies, Montsegur, Dance of Death, and Paschendale. all awesome songs. i think they are far from over and the six man lineup has brought a lot more into the fill. i think they should let nicko write a lot on the next album because new fronteir was really good and he could maybe write some not so stale riffs. |

| ok. for starters, i think that me or enzio are best for maiden questions. anyways, they have 13 albums. i will list them and tell you which ones are the best and who sang.
Iron Maiden(1980)-Paul DiAnno Killers(1981)-Paul DiAnno The Number of the Beast(1982)-Bruce Dickinson Piece of Mind(1983)-Bruce Powerslave(1984)-Bruce Somwhere in Time(1986)-Bruce 7th Son of a Seventh Son(1988)-Bruce No Prayer for the Dying(1991)-Bruce Fear of the Dark(1992)-Bruce The X Factor(1995)-Blaze Bailey Virtual XI(1998)-Blaze Bailey Brave New World(2000-Bruce Dance of Death(2003)-Bruce
here is the order i reccomend
Golden era: you can buy all of these in any order, but get these for sure:
# of the Beast Piece of Mind Powerslave Somwhere in time (worst in the golden age) Seventh son
21st century maiden (six memebers, 3 guitars) this is a return to the golden era, the best albums '88
Brave new world Dance of Death
The others: not as good as the other 7 albums, but maidens first two efforts are really great once yoyu get past dianos vocals) so her is the reccomended order:
Iron Maiden Killers Fear of the dark no prayer for the dying X factor Virtual XI
glad you like maiden, gary, dood, dud, vodka, whatever your name is. enjoy, metal up your ass, and UP THE IRONS! |

| well, I already have Number of the Beast, Brave New world, the X-Factor, Edward the Great and Dance of Death Iron Maiden for me is somewhat ambivalent, some of their songs are really great (most off Brave new world, 1st half of Dance of death) some really suck (like Age of Innocence or most stuff on Edward the Great) so I don´t really know what to think about it...
PS: the Beatles SUCK! edward the great blows. all greatest hits do. the x factor was a well written album, but i found that without bruce after so many albums there wasnt the same charm. i think you need all the golden albums, beast thru seventh son, and BNW and DOD wich you already own. i dont bother with the 90's albums much, because without adrian they werent great, and withou bruce it was just not maiden. so if you get the 7 albums i listed that is pretty much all you need, and the first 2 (Iron Maiden and Killers) are pretty good even without bruce. overall, i think that NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING, FEAR OF THE DARK, and VIRTUAL XI are the only albums that you shouldnt buy. the thing i have to say about maiden is that while they have ups and downs, they have constantly remained metal. |

i'll leave out the obvious metallica, megadeth, iron maiden(anything... same style through out until recently), dream theater etc.
i dont know if i agree with you on the iron maiden thing. i think brave new world comperes very closeley to somewhere in time sound wise. and i think dance of death is cousin to powerslave. i dont think they have changed at all really, other than now they have 3 guitars and steves bass sounds a little more subdued. otherwise they are the same crazy fucks we were introduced to 20+ years ago. |

| a word to the wise with iron maiden. start with the classic lineup stuff. that has bruce on vocals and adrian as guitar.
The Number of the Beast Piece of Mind Powerslave Somewhere in Time 7th Son of a 7th Son Brave New World Dance of Death
these are all great albums. i have to admit bruce's high voice takes a while to get used to but once you get used to it you will love it. and it took me a while to get used to the totally audible bass which is very clear in almost every song. im sure youll like it ifyou give them a solid chance. |

| | Initialy i would say metallica are better, however Metallica havent written any real metal since 87 (cmon guys black album onwards isnt metal at all). However Maiden have kept to pretty much the same style and are one of the few bands who have been playing true metal for a quarter of a decade. Maiden were around since before tallica and they're still here now. Dance of Death kicks st anger hands down. Drums i would say Nicko is a hell of a lot better. Vocals i personaly prefer James, though i think both vocalists suit their bands(bruce wouldnt sound right in metallica, james wouldnt sound right in maiden). Im not sure why but overall tallica are my fav band. |

| I dig the Iron Maiden, Killers, Piece Of Mind, Somewhere In Time, No Prayer For The Dying, The X-Factor and Dance Of Death albums very much... Fave songs are: Strange World, Purgatory, The Prisoner, Revelations, Powerslave, Caught Somewhere In Time, Only The Good Die Young, Run Silent Run Deep, Judas Be My Guide, Blood On The World's Hands, Como Estais Amigos, Blood Brothers and Paschendale (ofcourse this list changes once in a while...) Best singer: Paul Di'Anno, Blaze is great too and Bruce gets a little boring after a while, but he is still the best voice for Maiden's songs I think Clive Burr is a better drummer than Nicko and Smith-Murray-Gers are the best string-team alive!! Big respect for Steve for his superb songwriting! ;D |

| The Number of the Beast Piece of Mind Powerslave
buy all 3 at once. that will allow you to get some of thier best work without having to search. there isnt a bad song at all. i would reccomend buying the albums 7th son of a 7th son and Somwhere in time after those. then you can get the 2 new albums, Brave new world and Dance of Death, both which are equal in quality to the erlier stuff like Powerslave. you can pick up the first 2 albums as well, (iron maiden. Killers) though they feture dianno on vocals, who isnt even in the same legue as bruce but lyrics just waste time between solo's anyways. aftr that have free riegn tho i would reccomend staying away from most of the 90's albums. the only on worth owining is live at donnington. also for ive maiden at thier best, pick up rock in rio on DVD. actually, that would be the best place to start and go from there, because that lets you preveiw tons of songs at thier best without having to spend $100. hope this helps. |

| | ive said it before and ill say it again. i used to be the biggest metallica fan ever, i wouldnt even listen to critisism about st. anger. then i decided to buy a little album called The Number of the Beast. maiden didnt become my favorite band until i had 7 albums and rock in rio. then they pushed metallica aside. the more i got into other bands the more i realized that metallica was great, but not the best. i own and love every album with the exception of st. anger. this is an album i have swung back and forth on so many times i cant count. but now i am coming to the realization that with this album, metallica has lost thier identity. load and reload were still metallica, they still had that sound to them. not any more. metallica is like my 5th favorite band right now. they have to have a PERFECT album to bring them back to #2. the whole reason i say that is because maiden is, always has been, and always will be METAL. Metallica has changed everything they once stood for. i still like them, and puppets and justice remain my 2 favorite albums of all time, but i still pick maiden. not to mention that Brave New World and Dance of Death ABSOLUTLEY KILLED all doubt that maiden was back. metallica needs an album to do that, i dont care what style they use as long as it is well written. |

metallica have been out since 1981, ayet they still havnt made a proper "Metallica" album from the early days since 1991
actually maiden formed in 1976 to be more accurate. but most of thier 90's albums were downers. (cept a few songs)
and dance of death not great? 1 WORD: PASCHENDALE!!! the single greatest song ever written. yes, i like it better than To Live is to Die. bareley. |

| In terms of choosing between the two. Metallica wins, but its VERY close. When you compare st. anger to dance of death, st. anger gets absolutely crushed by the brilliance of dance of death. And maidens lyrics dont have any meaning? wtf?! are you retarded? You need to dig a little bit deeper to find their meanings. Metallica's song meanings are there blatantly for even the stupidest person to get right off. Maiden's lyrics are works of art and i love the galloping riffs.
You ever say anything bad about Bruce Dickinson's vocals again and i swear i will hunt you down and castrate YOU! Listen to paschendale, new frontier, rainmaker and montsegur. Now you'll see what im talking about. |

You don't know shit about what Metallica are doing at this very moment. Get over it. Maiden's albums all sound the same...thats soooo original. Metallica would probably be done if it sounded the same as every other album. I love Iron Maiden, but just because I happen to think they're unoriginal I don't need to express it in every thread like you and your Metalli-hate. If you like Maiden so much, go to an Iron Maiden forum. Easy as that. I'll stay here where some people still like Metallica .
Iron Maiden albums don't sound the same. Just listen to dance of death and compare it to Iron Maiden/Killers. Or compare piece of mind to the brave new world. Plus blaze, bruce, and paul have very different vocals.
I like metallica more obviously, but yea Maiden are very original band. |

| it should sound like metallica... whoever they are now, enough of those silly experiments and phases, just give us a decent record... PLEASE!!!
It's all been good, some better than others.
A crap Metallica album is still better than most of the other stuff that is floating around
that my friend, is an idiots statement. take 2003 for example.

You don't know whats coming next. It might slay...it might not.
All of those albums are based on opinion anyhow. Lots of people would disagree with your choices...you basically took your favorites and pitted them against a band you hate. Of course the other bands are going to look good in that frame of mind. |

No! Waking The Fallen is not better than St. Anger! It's shit!
If they'd put the SKOM Single Edit on the Album along with Dirty Window with the solos. Also if they had used the sound quality from the Reheasal DVD i would love it more. That DVD owns. That album would've slayed.
I'd say i'd like a Justice-style album. But with a few Kill 'em All Numbers.
Mix that with Load Vocals & the flow of MOP & RTL & you'll have one Bitching album.
P.S. I bet you if St. Anger was good, there wouldn't be as much coversation about it. It would just be seen as another album & be (relatively) ignored. St. Anger being bad made it more interesting & we get amazing debats like this! |

The way I see it, as long as they put out a good album, that's all that matters, Metallica can play Metallica, whatever they play, it is Metallica. Bands shouldn't make an album a certain way for fan sake, they play whatever they want, it's their band, not yours. |

| Well I only have # of the beast so I asked assmonkey what I should get and here's what he said:
"as for good albums, i suggest Powerslave, Seventh son, or Brave New World for starters. all of them are basically equal quality. after those, go for Piece of Mind, Somewhere in time, and Dance of death. those are still amazing albums, but not as good as the ther 3. i would go with BNW or Powerslave. those are more accessable than 7th son, which is a concept album and all the songs tell a story. need anymore help let me know."
*listens to the outlaw torn* what about the first 2(iron maiden and killlers) |
