| | ah, good ol mustaine, the fact of the matter is that mustaine did not signify their sound, he helped make kill em all, he had no participation in the blueprints of RTL, and so on and so forth, mainly because mustaine was kicked out of the band before KEA was released for alchoholic problems as well as rising tensions in the band(i.e. mustaine was a bit much to deal with, watch cliff em all) anyway, now that thats cleared up, i should say that, and i know everyone whos seen the movie will agree that when mustaine was kicked out of the band, he felt resentment towards lars and james, and in my opinion is what influenced him to say what he said, and ultimately is what led him to form megadeth just so he could say "fuck you metaliica, i dont need you!". he also mentions that throughout the years of competing, no matter what he did, he was always in second to metallica. so theres my message towards this subject, |

| Posted by BTHTDB82 on 11/29/04 @ 03:47 AM Post subject: Playing Metallica on Guitar | |
| Ok now I know the issue was brought up before about Metallica guitar tabs online not being exactly correct. I'm watching the Cliff 'Em All DVD on my computer and the fingers for a lot of songs don't look like what the tabs are telling me to play, but both sound the same usually. Just for an example, the Am I Evil main riff, I play an E5 power chord and then and F5 Power Chord and then A5 Power chord and then a chord with the first note on the 1st fret of the A String amd the second note on the third fret of the D string and then back to an A5. But on the Cliff 'Em All video it looks like James plays down lower to the 3rd and 5th frets or even 5th and 7th. Here's the link to the tab I'm working from. http://www.rockmagic.net/guitar-tabs/metallica/am_i_evil.tab
There's a few other songs that don't sound right also including parts of No Remorse and Blitzkrieg. So is it the tabs that are messed up or just my eyes? I'd like to try getting into reading music which I already know the EGBDF and FACE, but I've heard even the parts written in standard notation are incorrect at different points. Anyone got any suggestions for how I can learn the parts exactly as they are played by James and Kirk themselves? |

| Posted by Granstar88 on 10/30/04 @ 02:14 PM Post subject: Re: what happened to lars' drum kit? | |
| The Imperial star kit came from a Kerrang Isue from a couple of months back. A special Metallica Isue that was on sale here in Denmark. A great big shot of Lars behind the kit at the day of the green show '85. You can see clearly inside the rack toms and the coating. Tama called it zola coat in the catalogs and was only for Imperial star kit's. The day after this show James and Lars flew to Denmark to begin the recording of Puppetz. Lars's Camco kit had 4 racktoms so it's more than a 5 piece. Lars always used big 9 pieces kit's and it was not because of video filming. Tjeck the bootleg videos that's out there or Cliff'em'all. Feel free to ask. I may not have all the info corect. |

| Posted by Misery on 11/15/04 @ 10:36 PM Post subject: Re: Lars comments on Cliff | |
| That is not a Lars quote about Cliff, rather it is something a fan wrote long ago that has been used on various Cliff sites. How it has been misinterpreted into being a quote from Lars I will never know.
From all the quote's about Cliff I have seen , I would say Lars is the least flattering towards him out of James, Lars and Kirk. For example, he said in SKOM that Cliff probably wouldn't get the job had he auditioned after Jason left, that Cliff was often out on cloud nine, Jason's writing was way closer to James and Lars than Cliff's ever was, and that Cliff em All was never intended to elevate Cliff to God like status.

| View entire thread: Lars comments on Cliff |
| Posted by lazybum on 11/15/04 @ 02:23 PM Post subject: Re: Lars comments on Cliff | |
| It could have been possible. Metallica invented their brand of thrash metal which has been most successful amongst the big four (metallica, megadeth, anthrax, slayer).
They were highly successful and still would be after Cliff as AFJA was proof. But they probably knew Thrash was going to die sooner or later. That's why the released one of the most, if not, the most saturated progressive thrash metal album ever ~ ...And Justice for All.
That was to seal their name as the Gods of Thrash Metal who brought finasse to the genre (heard that slayer? Finasse. Oh wait, u probably don't know what's that)
After that they changed their style a lot to become simpler and commercial. Fine and dandy with that. With Load & Reload, it can be concluded Metallica is no more thrash metal. They have mentioned time and time again Metallica is about moving foward and not doing the old stuff again (Thrash Metal).
Now with that said,Metallica, or i think in particular Lars, has said that they would never do an MTV video. They would never stop playing this form of music. But they did. And Metallica, back when Cliff was alive, meant what they said. I mean, they're not as heartless to actually go back on their word. Cliff's death may have hurt and changed their mindset till the point of going back on their word.
They knew Thrash was going to end. Without Cliff, success in the genre wouldn't have been possible (Cliff may have been ok with a little commercialisation, but not till the extent of Load/Reload)
So, Metallica packed their bags and changed their style and survived till today. At first, i think they resented the change (Jason did). They didn't show it but deep in their hearts they knew there were commiting suicide in the metal community. But then, people grew to accept them and Metallica accepted their new music and became comfortable with it. Hence now, they seem happy with their new music.
This all just my own idea off course. I don't think Metallica's radical change in music style lies simply in the fact that they claimed "we do what we wanna do". They are deeper issues at hand. Stuff, maybe you won't see in "Cliff 'Em All" and "Some Kind of Monster".
We may never know. But is anybody here pissed at how Cliff got little mention in MTV icon? |

Meh, i'm bored, so i'll do another one with more options.
Fave Album: ARGH!! too hard!! ........Master Of Puppets!! but it will change i'll tell you! Fave Song sooo tough...... Sanitarium. Fave Solo The Thing That should not be or Dyers Eve Fave Concert that i've been to, Dublin, Ireland 2004 (Bootleg too) Favorite VHS/DVD VHS would be Cliff em all and DVD would be Cunning Stunts, but i haven't seen Live, Shit Binge Purge, which looks better. Fave Member James Hetfield. he sounds friendly and he is fucking hilarious. and he has some goood songs written. Genius in my eyes. Fave Era the Justice Period. But to see them live (with Cliff) i'd say Puppetz Period. too hard to choose. Instrumental Orion. Ktulu is good but a bit repetitive and To Live Is To Die is amazing, just isn't as good. :-/ Fave Bassist Cliff Burton. uses a plec for Battery, (Which Rob does too, but Jason Doesn't) better solo's, Headbangs like a maniac, Was around for the best albums, gave them that Classical influence. ;D Least Fave Album St. Anger. i've learned alot from you guys that made me appreciate it more, (Lyric wise, and effort) but it still is my least listened to album, and i don't like the way they did the songs. (IMO) Fave Solo Album AJFA, the solo's are the best i've heard from ANY metal guitarist, and the duals with James are up there with Maidens.
;D
