| ok. for starters, i think that me or enzio are best for maiden questions. anyways, they have 13 albums. i will list them and tell you which ones are the best and who sang.
Iron Maiden(1980)-Paul DiAnno Killers(1981)-Paul DiAnno The Number of the Beast(1982)-Bruce Dickinson Piece of Mind(1983)-Bruce Powerslave(1984)-Bruce Somwhere in Time(1986)-Bruce 7th Son of a Seventh Son(1988)-Bruce No Prayer for the Dying(1991)-Bruce Fear of the Dark(1992)-Bruce The X Factor(1995)-Blaze Bailey Virtual XI(1998)-Blaze Bailey Brave New World(2000-Bruce Dance of Death(2003)-Bruce
here is the order i reccomend
Golden era: you can buy all of these in any order, but get these for sure:
# of the Beast Piece of Mind Powerslave Somwhere in time (worst in the golden age) Seventh son
21st century maiden (six memebers, 3 guitars) this is a return to the golden era, the best albums '88
Brave new world Dance of Death
The others: not as good as the other 7 albums, but maidens first two efforts are really great once yoyu get past dianos vocals) so her is the reccomended order:
Iron Maiden Killers Fear of the dark no prayer for the dying X factor Virtual XI
glad you like maiden, gary, dood, dud, vodka, whatever your name is. enjoy, metal up your ass, and UP THE IRONS! |

| well, I already have Number of the Beast, Brave New world, the X-Factor, Edward the Great and Dance of Death Iron Maiden for me is somewhat ambivalent, some of their songs are really great (most off Brave new world, 1st half of Dance of death) some really suck (like Age of Innocence or most stuff on Edward the Great) so I don´t really know what to think about it...
PS: the Beatles SUCK! edward the great blows. all greatest hits do. the x factor was a well written album, but i found that without bruce after so many albums there wasnt the same charm. i think you need all the golden albums, beast thru seventh son, and BNW and DOD wich you already own. i dont bother with the 90's albums much, because without adrian they werent great, and withou bruce it was just not maiden. so if you get the 7 albums i listed that is pretty much all you need, and the first 2 (Iron Maiden and Killers) are pretty good even without bruce. overall, i think that NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING, FEAR OF THE DARK, and VIRTUAL XI are the only albums that you shouldnt buy. the thing i have to say about maiden is that while they have ups and downs, they have constantly remained metal. |

| | Powerslave and Seventh Son are the best albums for me. Other albums have many good songs, but they still can't beat those. Brave New World and Dance of Death are very good too. |

i'll leave out the obvious metallica, megadeth, iron maiden(anything... same style through out until recently), dream theater etc.
i dont know if i agree with you on the iron maiden thing. i think brave new world comperes very closeley to somewhere in time sound wise. and i think dance of death is cousin to powerslave. i dont think they have changed at all really, other than now they have 3 guitars and steves bass sounds a little more subdued. otherwise they are the same crazy fucks we were introduced to 20+ years ago. |

| I'm not that into Iron Maiden, but i like some of the stuff i've heard(Seventh Son album, Brave New World album...), but I really think Bruce is a fucken awful singer. It's like he's only able to sing when he pushes his words out of his mouth, almost like he's constant exhausted or something. James by the otherhand is able to sing in a good Metal way, I don't know how else to put it. Overall from the Maiden albums I've heard, I think Metallica wins by a long shot..More creativity, better songs and a way better singer |

| a word to the wise with iron maiden. start with the classic lineup stuff. that has bruce on vocals and adrian as guitar.
The Number of the Beast Piece of Mind Powerslave Somewhere in Time 7th Son of a 7th Son Brave New World Dance of Death
these are all great albums. i have to admit bruce's high voice takes a while to get used to but once you get used to it you will love it. and it took me a while to get used to the totally audible bass which is very clear in almost every song. im sure youll like it ifyou give them a solid chance. |

| MARTIN METALS GAY!!!!! Hey! Martin is swedish and he's cool.
Back to topic: Probably gonna get shit for this but what the hell. I think Bruce Dickinson has a better voice than James. James had a great voice like 10-15 years ago and on Load/Reload/Garage/S&M. But now I think it's got worse. Just listen to the live recordings from this tour. His voice aren't what it used to be. But I really like Bruce's voice. He really kick ass. The last week I have also got into the Brave New World album. Think it's really great. But I have to say that Metallica is the better band if you look at the big perspective. But I havn't heard Maiden so much I don't know. |

| The Number of the Beast Piece of Mind Powerslave
buy all 3 at once. that will allow you to get some of thier best work without having to search. there isnt a bad song at all. i would reccomend buying the albums 7th son of a 7th son and Somwhere in time after those. then you can get the 2 new albums, Brave new world and Dance of Death, both which are equal in quality to the erlier stuff like Powerslave. you can pick up the first 2 albums as well, (iron maiden. Killers) though they feture dianno on vocals, who isnt even in the same legue as bruce but lyrics just waste time between solo's anyways. aftr that have free riegn tho i would reccomend staying away from most of the 90's albums. the only on worth owining is live at donnington. also for ive maiden at thier best, pick up rock in rio on DVD. actually, that would be the best place to start and go from there, because that lets you preveiw tons of songs at thier best without having to spend $100. hope this helps. |

| | ive said it before and ill say it again. i used to be the biggest metallica fan ever, i wouldnt even listen to critisism about st. anger. then i decided to buy a little album called The Number of the Beast. maiden didnt become my favorite band until i had 7 albums and rock in rio. then they pushed metallica aside. the more i got into other bands the more i realized that metallica was great, but not the best. i own and love every album with the exception of st. anger. this is an album i have swung back and forth on so many times i cant count. but now i am coming to the realization that with this album, metallica has lost thier identity. load and reload were still metallica, they still had that sound to them. not any more. metallica is like my 5th favorite band right now. they have to have a PERFECT album to bring them back to #2. the whole reason i say that is because maiden is, always has been, and always will be METAL. Metallica has changed everything they once stood for. i still like them, and puppets and justice remain my 2 favorite albums of all time, but i still pick maiden. not to mention that Brave New World and Dance of Death ABSOLUTLEY KILLED all doubt that maiden was back. metallica needs an album to do that, i dont care what style they use as long as it is well written. |

| ok, since i was in a hurry when posting before, i didnt get to compare the bands memeber for member, so here it goeses:
Vocals-Bruce hands down. the fucker has more energy than anyone else. i also love his high pitched opera style vocals. it is earsplitting but not thin sounding if you get what i mean.
Metallica:0 Maiden: 1
Guitars-Well, kirk and jaymz are both better than all of maidens guitarists, even though the five of them are awesome. actually, dave and kirk are pretty much tied here, but it goes to metallica because they do thier jobs and do them well.
Metallica: 1 Maiden: 1
Bass: Sorry, maybe if cliff had lived longer things would be different, but steve is the BEST FUCKING BASSIST TO WALK THIS EARTH
Metallica: 1 Maiden: 2
Drumming: Lars, im sorry man, but nicko mcbrian schools your scrwny white ass.
Metallica: 1 Maiden: 3
However, Metallica gets 2 points for variety, because maiden is always the same. now, we all know maiden has 13 albums, metallica has 8, and maiden had a down period after seventh son where they declined in quality, but now they are back so maybey metallica was in the same kind of down period and the next albums will be as good as maidens Brave New World was, wich was the best album since seventh son, maybey tallica will come out with something that will be thier best since justice.
so, in the end its a tie, and both bands kick ass and should collaborate on a song with 5 guitars, 2 bassist, 2 drummers, and bruce on vocals, with jaymz on backup.

| | This thread is old news, but i dont feel like missing out on such a good topic. Iron Maiden is one of my favorite bands, thier the best live band of all time and they have some really killer songs. One of the first metal cds i ever owned was a burnt cd with 16 iron maiden songs and i played the hell out of that thing. I have all thier dvds and they are great musicians. I love bruce, janick(extremely under-rated), dave, adrien, steve, and nicko. Ive literally grown up listening to these guys. That being said, i like Metallica more. Im not going to say thier more talented because honestly thier not, iron maiden are better musicians. But in my opinion a band really comes down to the songs, plain and simple. You could be the best musician in the world but if you cant write a good song then no ones going to want to listen to, not for very long anyway. Iron Maiden has awesome songs, but metallicas are easier to relate to, and because of james vocals thier more passionate and real. I guess metallica has just always had a very real image to me. Thier just four guys rocking out. Iron Maiden has more of an allmighty rockstar image. I mean did you see what bruce was wearing in rock in rio, no one would wear that on the street. Having the eddy theme is cool but again its not real, neither are all the story songs where theres a character travelling or doing something. I mean look at brave new world, the wicker man, the mariner, the nomad. You know what i mean. It all just comes down to a matter of taste, iron maiden are a metal icon and will go down in history as one of the best bands of all time, so will metallica. Which ones better ultimately is decided by the opinions of each and every fan. Its all metal guys, this isnt a metallica vs korn thread. :P |

| Post it ;D You asked for it...
This is from me sitting on my ass actually watching tv with the VCR remote in my hand. None of these are downloaded its all been taped from a little over 3 years.
It's not updated, so when I say 850 it's a rough estimate. This was last updated on Dec 26th, I am now at least 25 videos ahead of that.
Anyhow, as requested...see my downward spiral from humble nu-metal, rap and pop begginnings to my very first Metallica and Led Zep videos... ;D 8) This collection is my pride.

| | i dont expect, nor do i care if they do go back and put out out old school thrash again, personnally, i respect metallica for the fact that no matter what fans underground or mainstream, new or old, that metallica consistently changes things up, keeping theyre music fresh and interesting not stagnant and repetitive like oh lets say, slayer, anthrax, iron maiden(except brave new world and dance o death), testament, and among others, dont get me wrong, theyre all great bands, but when you repeat your stuff, your fan base only gets smaller because its only the die hard fans that like routine wholl stick with the band. you dont become one of the greatest of rock bands by being repetitive, the beatles, hendrix, the rolling stones, are all prime examples. anyway,i know ill get backlash for "bashing" slayer but whatever. anyway, i think some of the reason why they didnt put solos into st. anger is because they wanted to sitr it up, it happened with fade to black, it happened with one, then the black album, then the haircut, and itll keep on happening. |

actually maiden formed in 1976 to be more accurate. but most of thier 90's albums were downers. (cept a few songs)
and dance of death not great? 1 WORD: PASCHENDALE!!! the single greatest song ever written. yes, i like it better than To Live is to Die. bareley. |

| hey, maiden has managed 2 tours and to get back in the studio before metallica even got off thier lazy asses. somehow im not surprised.
You don't know shit about what Metallica are doing at this very moment. Get over it. Maiden's albums all sound the same...thats soooo original. Metallica would probably be done if it sounded the same as every other album. I love Iron Maiden, but just because I happen to think they're unoriginal I don't need to express it in every thread like you and your Metalli-hate. If you like Maiden so much, go to an Iron Maiden forum. Easy as that. I'll stay here where some people still like Metallica .
Iron Maiden albums don't sound the same. Just listen to dance of death and compare it to Iron Maiden/Killers. Or compare piece of mind to the brave new world. Plus blaze, bruce, and paul have very different vocals.
I like metallica more obviously, but yea Maiden are very original band. |

Iron Maiden Killers The Number of the Beast Piece of Mind Powerslave Somewhere in Time 7th Son of a 7th Son Fear of the Dark Brave new world Dance of Death Rock in Rio (DVD)

| Well I only have # of the beast so I asked assmonkey what I should get and here's what he said:
"as for good albums, i suggest Powerslave, Seventh son, or Brave New World for starters. all of them are basically equal quality. after those, go for Piece of Mind, Somewhere in time, and Dance of death. those are still amazing albums, but not as good as the ther 3. i would go with BNW or Powerslave. those are more accessable than 7th son, which is a concept album and all the songs tell a story. need anymore help let me know."
*listens to the outlaw torn* what about the first 2(iron maiden and killlers) |
