| Post it ;D You asked for it...
This is from me sitting on my ass actually watching tv with the VCR remote in my hand. None of these are downloaded its all been taped from a little over 3 years.
It's not updated, so when I say 850 it's a rough estimate. This was last updated on Dec 26th, I am now at least 25 videos ahead of that.
Anyhow, as requested...see my downward spiral from humble nu-metal, rap and pop begginnings to my very first Metallica and Led Zep videos... ;D 8) This collection is my pride.

| | well, i dont give a fuck because in about 5 years i am going to come out with a band that will ultimateley kill rap and hiphop and my 5 biggest influences (metallica, iron maiden, megadeth, led zeppelin, and black sabbath) will become commonly used household names once again. |

| Hi, my first metallica-album was the black one, I bought it when it came out. So that`s 13 years ago, I guess. Before that time I heard lots of heavy metal and hard-rock, black sabbath, led zeppelin, deep purple, rush.......I knew some metallica songs from friends, but after buying the black album, I bought all the others, and I got hooked ;D

| fuck, I can't name kinds of metal. There's too much sub categorizing everything, it kinda pisses me off. Why can't metal just be metal? Oh and if you start saying that Motley Crue shouldn't be under the same category as Metallica, Motley Crue isn't metal. It's shit. How bout this... Black Sabbath ,Iron Maiden, metallica, Heathen, Dream Theater, Slayer, all that shit can just go under metal. Led Zeppelin is pure rock. |

| Sounds real cool. Holy wars is insane.. It's all bluesy.
You're lucky to have 3 kids. I had a friend or two who like Black Sabbath or Maiden. My band was into a lot of other stuff but we all liked metal *though John our bassist likes lots of jazz and rock, our drummer likes jazz, I like blues guitar and classical music*
Sometimes it's really hard to find people close to you with same intrests which brings the thought. "Why are they close to me without shared intrests?" |

| i suggest that you simply explore the vast amount of music out there. i listen to a wide variety of stuff but you want only metal so start with the old school stuff.
Black Sabbath - everything really but first 6(eponymous through sabotage) would be a good start. Led Zep(not really metal but...) - get "remasters" and then decide what you want. Judas Priest - get "metal works" and same as above. Rush - same as above. get collection called "retrospection" or retrospective or something... i forget. Motorhead - if you like Ace of Spades you can check out their other stuff. Venom - not quintessential for me but get "black metal".
i'll leave out the obvious metallica, megadeth, iron maiden(anything... same style through out until recently), dream theater etc.
Bathory - get blood, fire, death or hammerheart and see if you like it. Slayer - everything except the last one "god hates us all"(crap to my ears.) "seasons in the abyss" would be a good start, got fast stuff, mid paced stuff, great album. Death - started out as primitive death metal and became a technically brilliant progressive-death outfit. check out "human", "individual thought patterns" and "symbolic." Sepultura - everything upto Roots. the last album isn't bad either.
that would be for starters. in Metal. you should also check out what the others have said like AIC, Tool and soundgarden, faith no more and stuff. also much pink floyd, doors and so on.
more Death, Doom, Black etc. can follow. once you know this stuff and if you like it you won't need to ask except in rare cases. all the best collecting the stuff! :) |

| | Well, a little about me. I am a big MetallicA fan and have been since 1983 when my buddy brought back Kill from germany. I was born in a small town in Idaho in the mid 60's. I definatelly became a die hard fan when I first seen MetallicA live in 1992. I usually take a new person that has not seen MetallicA live every time I go to a concert. My last recruit was a coworker who was an exranger in the army and have seen a lot of action while he was in the service. I have been introducing him to MetallicA the past 2 years that I have worked with him. I was skeptic about it at first but, I am very glad that I made that choice. I did have to warn him before One played though but, Jesse says that he will definatelly see MetallicA live again and that they were the best live act he has seen ever. He also understands now how I could see them 13 times as of 11/04. I like a lot of other metal bands like Reverend, Metal Church, Dio, Black Sabbath, Sword, Muthas Day Out, Fight, Priest, Pantera, Headpins, Warlock and many more to mention. |

| View entire thread: Tallica in Sabb Family Tree |
| Posted by mooseheadtrail on 12/08/04 @ 12:00 PM Post subject: Tallica in Sabb Family Tree | |
| Every fan knows that because of Robert Trujillo (and, of course, Jason Newsted), Metallica is now firmly a branch in the Black Sabbath family tree. But if you think it ends there, well, as Rob Halford would say, you've got another thing coming.
Because of what can only be described as 'intensive interbreeding' between Black Sabbath and Deep Purple throughout the late 70's and early 80's, Metallica is linked, through Robert and Jason (and Dave Mustaine, too) to numerous other bands, including (but surely not limited to):
Judas Priest Led Zeppelin Iron Maiden Frank Zappa Whitesnake Alice Cooper Kiss Van Halen AC/DC and of course Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Every band a major influence (though David Coverdale was more influential when in Purple than Whitesnake although, if you've got the Donnington 95 bootleg ;D).
So you're probably wondering how I came by all that. Well, I blame it on Quebec City. I was listening to that awesome livemetallica.com download (for I was at both shows!!) and I just thought about Robert, and bands he'd been in. From there, it hit me like a two-ton heavy thing (yeah, there's a link to Queensryche, too, and even Alice In Chains; you figure it out). This guy's family tree is more extensive than I could have imagined, and I was shocked at how great it was.
It starts with either Sabbath or Purple. We'll go with the heavier one first, so Sabbath it is. Everything was fine in Sabbath until Ozzy left, that's when it all begins. As you may know, Ronnie James Dio filled in as Ozzy's very capable replacement for two albums (three, if you‘re counting Live Evil). Dio was the former singer of Rainbow, a band formed by Ritchie Blackmore. Blackmore was the old guitarist of Deep Purple, so that's where the first, but far from final, link between these two metal ledgends starts.
Ian Gillan, the singer of Deep Purple, soon left Purple (and he would rejoin them two more times, once with Steve Morse, former Kansas guitarist, in case this family tree isn't extensive enough!). After he left Purple, but before he replaced Dio in Black Sabbath for the Born Again LP (a GREATLY overlooked album, killer tunes, especially Disturbing The Priest, overlooked even by Sabbath fans, shame on them) Gillan for a time had his own solo band. The guitar player in Gillan’s band was a guy named Janick Gers.
When Gillan broke up, Janick Gers soon found himself in another band, this one fronted by former Iron Maiden singer Paul Dianno. As if that wasn't enough of a Maiden connection, years later, Janick Gers would not only play on Bruce Dickinson's Tattooed Millionaire album (classic) but also become a real member of Iron Maiden, where he remains to this day.
So . . .where was I?
Okay, back to Deep Purple for a minute. When Ian Gillan left the band, David Coverdale came in, playing on such killer tunes as Burn and Stormbringer (and Mistreated, too, you may remember that riff from the Lars/Kirk solo from Binge+Purge). Anyway, Coverdale soon left Purple and formed his own band, Whitesnake. There were (still are) many revolving members in this band, but it included a few memorable names: Rudy Sarzo (bassist previously in Ozzy and Quiet Riot, a band in which Randy Rhoads once played), and Steve Vai (who had recently played in David Lee Roth's solo band—Roth obviously of Van Halen fame-and back before that, had been in Frank Zappa's band) and years later the lesser known Reb Beach (sp?) who had been the original guitarist in Winger, the bandleader of which had been the bassist for Alice Cooper. Oh, and by the way, David Coverdale-between stints in Whitesnake-formed a short lived band with Jimmy Page, who, as you may know, was the guitar player in Led Zeppelin. Jimmy Page, years before, after the demise of said Zeppelin, formed a band called The Firn, featuring Paul Rodgers, former singer of Bad Company, and Chris Slade, future drummer for AC/DC.
Take a deep breath . . . it gets worse :o
So meanwhile, the guy that started all of this, one Ozzy Ousbourne, had all kinds of folks in his band. This included Jake E Lee, who played on what I personally view as Ozzy's best album The Ultimate Sin. After the Ultimate Sin tour, Jake left (paving the way for Zakk Wylde). Jake then formed a band called Badlands with Ray Gillan (no relation to Ian, though Ray was formerly the singer with Sabbath, though he recorded no music with them). That first self-titled Badlands album is okay (Winter's Call is by far the best track). The drummer in that band was Eric Singer, who later replaced the late Eric Carr in Kiss. Of course, Mike Inez was also in Ozzy's band, and later in Alice In Chains. Robert Trujillo later repalced him (coming from Suicidal and Infectious), and then joined Metallica. In an odd twist, Jason Newsted took Robert's place in Ozzy's band, firmly cementing Metallica's direct connection to Sabbath, Purple and many others.
Wait! I'm not done yet. There's still Megadeth. Marty Friedman was one of the guitarists in this band. He had formerly been in Racer X. The drummer of Racer X was Scott Travis, who went on to be the drummer (best they ever had) in Judas Priest on the Painkiller album (and Rob's solo band, Fight, as well).
Okay, that's it. I'm done (and I fucken knew reading all those old Hit Parader's and Rip magazines would pay off one day!) If this is all too much for you, well, do like I did - blame it on Quebec City (just kidding!) ;D ;D ;D

| This morning I was in a book store and they had books on the best selling albums from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. I looked at the ones from the 70s, 80s, and 90s and something really got to me. It didn't bother me so much that in the 70s book that Black Sabbath's Paranoid was only #63 and sold 4 million albums (although for its time that was awesome) and that their Debut wasn't in their at all (I wasnt surprised by it but IMO I think its better than Paranoid).
I read the 80s book and I was glad to see where Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All ended up. Puppets was #49(it sold 6.1 million) and Justice was #39(it sold 7.1 million). Thats awesome numbers since Metallica was still somewhat of an unknown, although their music video for "One" probably changed that a little. I was a little disappointed that Ride The Lightning wasn't on there and I thought Ozzy's Blizzard of Oz did better than what was shown,it was #100 with 4.1 million sold, although that is still very good.
Now we come to the 90's book and this is where I got very angry. Metallica's Black Album we all now was huge success and it shows in the book. It was #12 with 13.3 million sold. Now that is just amazing but what made me furious was the albums in front of it. There was Britney Spears debut which was at #10 and sold 600,000 more copies than the Black Album and there were 2 FUCKIN BACKSTEET BOYS albums ahead of it. WOW. I knew those albums sold alot but shit that much? These people arent even around anymore. They were a fuckin fad, they dont have talent. I cant believe a Backstreet boys album sold 16 million!!!!!!!!!WTF is wrong with people? I know I am overreacting but I found it pretty shocking that they sold that much and were ahead of something truly amazing. |

All right you dumbass, these are my favorite bands:
Metallica Megadeth Guns N' Roses Nirvana Alice in Chains Black Sabbath Tool
Notice that these bands are all 100% original.
Megadeth? 100% origonal? You are on something!!! And your arguing about Godsmack copying? Megadeth and Metallica sound closer than godsmack and AIC. godsmack doesnt sound anything like AIC. AIC is alot more grungy. AIC is better and Godsmack did take their name from a song, but they sound nothing alike. godsmack is way more upbeat, AIC is slow alot of the time and kinda depressing sounding too (I like that though). I not a big fan of godsmack, but they are better than most music out these days and were kinda the leaders of the more modern metal that isnt hardcore (hardcore=toneless screaming). There is a difference between being influenced by someone and copying them.

| Posted by on 04/26/06 @ 01:27 AM Post subject: NEW CD, Songs that inspired Metallica | |
| Sanctuary Records are re-packaging the "Metallic-era" albums into one double set billed "Full Metal Garage - The Songs That Drove Metallica" for release on June 26.
Originally conceived by Rockdetector.com's Garry Sharpe-Young, all of these original tracks are available together, at last, on one double CD, "Full Metal Garage – The Songs That Drove Metallica". This album — fully approved by METALLICA — features artists such as BLACK SABBATH, MOTÖRHEAD, MISFITS, DIAMOND HEAD and THIN LIZZY. It's a genuinely inspirational collection of music and when you listen it's easy to see how this group of talented bands has influenced the lives and music of METALLICA.
Says Garry Sharpe-Young: "It's well known that METALLICA drew their inspiration from many of the NWoBHM bands, classic '70s rockers and British punk, and they themselves have been quick to honour these acts with their infamous 'Garage Days' sets and a swathe of B-sides over the years. It suddenly dawned on me one day, whilst working on album projects for the likes of SAVAGE and HOLOCAUST, that although fans knew of these tracks, most had never heard the originals. I then set wheels in motion to compile all of them into one collection. I can remember talking to DIAMOND HEAD's Sean Harris who told me that when they supported METALLICA at the Milton Keynes festival they got booed when they opened with 'Am I Evil' because the METALLICA fans thought they were doing a cover version! Also, perhaps the most direct inspiration for the band, Mansfield's SAVAGE, never got their justice by way of an official METALLICA cover but the band included a track on their first demos and used to play 'Let It Loose' live, neglecting to tell the audience it was a cover! Somehow, history got a bit skewed simply because METALLICA got so big. Here, you can hear all the originals, such as BUDGIE's 'Breadfan', which METALLICA used as a set opener for a huge number of shows, or Scotland's highly influential HOLOCAUST, SWEET SAVAGE's 'Killing Time' and JAGUAR from Bristol. Being a well-known obsessor over historical detail, it was a fun job putting these tracks together and, most importantly, getting some of these lesser known bands some well-overdue recognition."
METALLICA have dominated, changed and inspired the musical landscape since they burst onto the metal scene with the release of their debut album "Kill 'Em All" in 1983. The truly innovative and fresh approach from the San Francisco four-piece has materially changed the music we listen to today. Credited with creating thrash metal, METALLICA have always celebrated the music that has influenced them and have made previous homilies to the bands and musicians on the albums "Garage Days" revisited EP and the double album "Garage Inc."

| What do you Sabbath fans think is the better album? The Debut or Paranoid? Rate them too.
Personally I think The debut is better. Paranoid has got some filler like Rat Salad (IMO). Also, although I like Planet Caravan and I do think it is a relaxing song, it's weird and its hard to understand what Ozzy is saying.
Here is how I would rate them: Black Sabbath-2000/10 Paranoid-1000/10 8)
Also, how would you rate Master of Reality. I bought it this weekend but have not yet listened. |

One song that I just listened to today that really ives me goose gumps is Black Sabbath's Children of the Grave(especially at the end).
There is definitely more but I cannot think of any at this moment. Oh yeah Sabbath's Black Sabbath is a good one too. |

| The middle part of MOP...the slow lead is pretty creepy... Solitude/Black Sabbath/War Pigs - Black Sabbath A tout le monde - Megadeth Cemetary Gates - Pantera Convos to Nothingness - Enslaved Burn in Hell - Judas Priest Hallowed be thy name/Afraid to shoot strangers - Iron Maiden the Cradle of Filth version of "Hallowed be thy name" is even creepier... Everytime I die - Children of Bodom
Just some....LOTS more that I haven't mentioned...
How is A tout le monde a creepy song? and cemetary gates? "gates" is about his mom passing away when he was young,I guess music has different strokes on some people. :-/ |

| I've never made a thread on these guys, but the time has come .
Don't know if any of you have ever heard of them, but if you live in Ontario the chances that you've seen flyers for their shows is pretty high. I'll give you the crash couse and you can make up your own mind on em...some of you will find it laughable...thats cool, metal is meant to be fun and bring a smile to your face (yup, even doom metal). Others will find that it awakens a rather animal instinct to get your ass down to the local metal scene in your area and pump those fists high in the air! Headbanging and beer swilling will ensue.
I just hope it does something for ya .
Crash course in Goat Horn:
Previous names: Corpse Bike
They play: Heavy/Doom/Thrash Metal
Vocals are: Not quite growly, not quite clean.
Live shows: Involve intoxication, headbanging, the horns, flaming beer kegs and
good times with your local Canadian metal scene.
They're originally from: Pembroke
Now located in: Toronto
Members:
Jason Decay
Steelrider (just left the band)
Brandon Wars
Influences: Include Skid Row, Eudoxis, Motley Crue, Exciter, Motorhead, Venom,
The Rods, Celtic Frost, Anthrax, Guns n Roses, Helloween, Judas Priest,
Black Sabbath and Voivod.

Watch a video if you don't care about anything else in this thread 8-).
I had the excellent fortune to finally see a Goat Horn gig last February...and holy shit. I couldn't ask for a better local metal experience for 8$. I was was fucking speechless, only got a brief word in with the guys and I had to leave early...but what I saw I will treasure forever. I was at Steelrider's last gig, actually :). |
